Welcome Back Family!

Dear South County Students and Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the South County High School Family, I am excited to welcome you to the 2019-20 school year!  I am very excited about continuing the momentum from last year, while setting new goals for us all to accomplish.  I along with the rest of the South County Family are anxious to engage in rekindling the partnerships with each of you to ensure that all students are able to achieve at their highest potential and participate in a wealth of discovery learning.

For those of you who are new to our "Family", I would like to welcome you to South County. You will hear the word Family a great deal over the course of time your children are with us.  It is the belief in the Family concept that will drive the discovery and learning, as well as providing for a safe environment for all students.  As a Family we look out for and ensure that each family member has the tools and skills they need to represent the Family in the best way possible.

We are very excited about what the 2019-20 school year has in store for all of us.  Many of you have already been in the building.  Some of you have come to register with us, some for sports, performing arts, and of course to pick up your student’s FCPSOn laptop.  This device will unlock access for some of our students, but for each of our students it will open doors to allow them to engage in collaborative, and ethical critical thinking.  We are enthusiastic about the potential the 1:1 initiative offers, as we continue to focus on the learning our students will be doing, and less on the teaching we are doing, as we assist in creating opportunities for students to be resilient, global citizens.

Below are two very important dates to put on your calendars to assist you and your student:

  • New Student Orientation - Thursday, August 22, 9:00am
  • Stallion StampedeThursday, August 22
      • 4:30pm Freshmen
      • 6:00pm All other students
  • First day of school – Monday, August 26 (8:10am begins first period)
  • Back to School Night – Thursday, September 11, 5:00pm – 7:30pm

Parents and guardians, you are members of our Family as much as your students are.  As members, and a supporting structure for your child, please feel free to call or email your child’s teacher, counselor, or administrator to check in on your student’s performance at any time.  Please remember that consistent communication is one of the most effective ways to keep abreast of your child's academic performance.

I sincerely hope that your child has a wonderful experience during the upcoming school year. Again, it is our goal to make sure we meet the needs of every student that walks through our doors.  I look forward to meeting you at various school functions throughout the year.  Please take advantage of the opportunity to be a significant part of your child’s time here at South County. And please participate as a voice through our PTSO!   #OneStallion

Sincerely,

Gary M. Morris
