Sandburg Happenings

First Day Packet

A packet of information will be given to students to take home on the first day of school.

Schedule

You will be able to see your child’s schedule in your parent SIS account on August 22 at 6AM. On the first day of school, your child will be directed to their first period class where they will receive a schedule.  Students’ first period classes will be posted in various locations throughout the school.

Intervention Classes

Based on a review of your child’s academic progress and test scores in Math and English, he/she may be enrolled in a support course for the 2019-2020 school year. Our intervention classes support the core curriculum and provide additional time for your child to gain the necessary skills for success in mathematics and English as he/she transitions through middle school and into high school.  In addition, each course supports the VA End-of-Course SOLs, incorporates strategies for successful test taking and problem solving, and builds confidence in your child’s ability.

Bus information

FCPS Department of Transportation will be sending out a second KIT message with route information to students and families the week before school begins. The message will be sent out the evening of the 22nd or 23rd. Families may also check information for their students starting Aug. 19th , using their FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View account.  Also of note, families can update their contact information using their SIS Parent Account. For inquiries, please contact Area 1 Transportation 703-446-2150

JOIN THE SANDBURG PTA!

The PTA is an active organization that sponsors several activities and events throughout the school year for the benefit of our students, teachers and staff here at CSMS. Joining the PTA provides instant financial support for our students and is a great way to stay informed about what’s happening at Carl Sandburg Middle School.

Over $24,000 was raised from PTA membership, donations and fundraising events last year. Those funds were used to support teacher appreciation activities, lighting for the auditorium, technology for the library, clubs, cafeteria needs and education department requests. Help us exceed that amount this year by joining the Carl Sandburg Middle School PTA!

To join the PTA go to http://carlsandburgpta.ch2v.com/content.asp?PageID=0 and select the membership level that best suits you. There is also an option to make a tax-deductible donation, and 100% of all donations go directly to the school!

Email questions to PTA Membership Chair Rachel Meadows at rachelcmeadows@gmail.com.

PTA information, including details about fundraisers, teacher appreciation and membership can be found on our website at this link: http://carlsandburgpta.ch2v.com. We also post regularly to social media, so follow Carl Sandburg Middle School PTA on both Facebook and Twitter.
