Delivering one of the most memorable scores of all time, students from across Northern Virginia are transforming the Westfield stage this summer to 19th century France for a story of love, passion, sacrifice and redemption: Les Misérables. Victor Hugo’s classic novel comes to life with this Tony Award-winning musical that follows the life of Jean Valjean (John Henry Stamper), who is released from years of unjust imprisonment but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert (Braeden Anderson), who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Valjean’s life begins to turn around as he agrees to take care of Cosette (Kylee Downie), who is the daughter of a poor factory worker named Fantine (Christina Brown). He saves Cosette from M. Thenardier (Jeffrey Mouritzen), her cruel money-obsessed keeper, and his evil wife, Mme. Thenardier (Meredith Kilmartin). During the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary, Marius (Jonathan Geerdes), who has captured Cosette’s heart. Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into this revolutionary period in France. Attempting to overthrow the government at a street barricade are a group of young idealists, including Enjolras (Ryaan Farhadi), a radical student leader of the revolution, and Eponine (Keeley Rogers), the Thenardiers’ daughter who is deeply in love with Marius. The cast of more than 60 students from Fairfax and Loudoun Counties and other area schools storm the musical barricade with this epic, uplifting tale.
