From the Principal's Desk:

Our last week of school was fantastic. We had great end of year activities and beautiful weather. Thank you to Mr. Musgnug and the 8th grade teachers for organizing and coordinating the 8th grade fun day at Evergreen Adventure Park. Thank you to Ms. Blake for organizing and coordinating the 7th grade Activities Day. A huge thanks to Mr. Musgnug, Ms. Hannon, Ms. Schmitt and Mr. Sirdofsky for organizing, coordinating and managing the 8th grade Recognition Ceremonies. Thank you! 

I wish you and your families a restful summer with time to recharge and re-energize and look forward to seeing you in August.

Kilmer NJHS Candidate Forms Due September 16, 2019

Candidate Forms for the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) will be distributed through Open House materials for 8th graders who received a 3.7 cumulative GPA in the 2018-2019 school year. Candidate Forms will also be available on the Kilmer NJHS Google Classroom once school begins.

The form and teacher recommendation deadline is September 16 by 3:00 pm. Completed forms are to be turned in to the Main Office.

The requirements for NJHS candidates are listed below -

  • Candidates for NJHS must have and maintain a GPA of at least 3.70. Initial enrollment is based on 7th grade cumulative GPA.
  • Candidates must complete all NJHS assignments by the deadline established by the NJHS committee.  
  • Candidates must show evidence of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service.
  • At least eight hours of direct service must be completed in an approved service learning project and recorded in the NJHS x2Vol. The eight hours of NJHS service are in addition to Civics hours.
  • In addition, seven hours are required during and after school hours for mandatory student meetings and mentor check ins.
  • Candidates must have two teacher recommendations (can be 7th or 8th grade teachers).

Students selected as NJHS candidates for the 2019-2020 school year will be notified through their school email. The first mandatory NJHS Candidate Meeting will be on September 25, 2019, from 2:30-3:30. We look forward to meeting our new candidates who are ready to ‘Make a Difference!’


Food for Every child to Eat During Summer

The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Office of Food and Nutrition Services will provide picnic-style summer lunches for students via its FEEDS (Food for Every child to Eat During Summer) program at various locations across Fairfax County.

The Summer Meals Kickoff encourages County residents to experience the benefits of FCPS’ summer meals program, which is funded through the United States Department of Agriculture. FNS will offer no-cost lunch to all children 18 years of age as well as low-cost adult meals. In addition, information booths will be available to showcase:  local businesses, youth groups, health organizations, and activities geared toward the well-being of Fairfax County residents. Details

8th Grade Open House – Tuesday, August 20th 

Rising 8th grade parents it’s time to mark your calendar! The 8th grade Open House for the 2019-2020 school year is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00-6:00 PM. At this time, students will receive their class schedules and locker assignments for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents will also receive a packet of FCPS information, including bus schedules, when they pick up their child’s schedule. More information about our eighth grade open house will be shared via Kilmer News You Choose emails this summer.


Summer Hours

The Kilmer building will be open Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 3pm the week of June 17, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., June 24 through June 28 and July 8 through August 9.  The main office is closed the week of July 1 - 5.


High School Summer Reading Assignments

Kilmer students head to many different high schools -- we pulled together the summer reading requirements from those schools our students are most likely attend. Here are listed those requirements from Marshall HS, Madison HS, and TJHSST.


Fourth Quarter Grades & Final Report Cards

Fourth quarter grades and final report cards can be viewed in SIS ParentVUE up until Friday, June 21st at 4:00 pm. A final report card will be mailed home the last week of June.


SOL Scores

Individual SOL score reports were sent home with students on Thursday, June 13. If students were not at school, they will be mailed home with report cards.
