Google Suite for Education

G Suite for Education is available to students over the summer. All files created by, or shared with, students will continue to be available to them. Explore what your student is working on in G Suite for Education by having your student log in to his or her FCPS G Suite for Education account at home. Your student will use his or her network login credentials to access G Suite for Education. Students have the ability to reset their password using the Account Recovery service, even over the summer. However, recovery options must be set up in advance. Your student can set up those options by logging into the FCPS Account Manager.

Summer is also the perfect time to revisit the rules in your household for technology and media use, and set clear expectations for your child. The FCPS Digital Citizenship website has Device Contracts and Family Media Agreements that can help you guide family conversations. There is also a free online Digital Citizenship course available for parents and their children to work through together.

More information on G Suite for Education can be found on the FCPS Website.

Summer Reading

Summer break is almost here and the Woodson Librarians encourage all students to continue reading over the summer.  Take this time to find a book that YOU are interested in reading.  Discover new ideas, new lands and new ways of thinking about the world whether it's through a nonfiction book about a topic that interests you or through a fiction book filled with complex characters or intriguing plots. Or maybe you want to find a book that makes you laugh out loud!  The bottom line is just make time to read.

Here is a link to the Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program.

Stop by the Woodson Library to check out your favorite books for the summer.

Happy Reading!

Summer Yearbook Photo

Summer Photos for Yearbook

Parents and students: The yearbook needs pictures from your summer adventures. We’d love images of Woodson kids at summer jobs, at the pool (summer swim team photos especially wanted), summer travels, backyard goings on, etc.

You can share your pictures with the yearbook staff via eShare.  You can do this two easy ways.

  • Go to HJeShare.com and enter the school code: wtwoodson
  • Download the HJeShare app for iPhone or Android at the App Store or Google Play. Again, the school code: wtwoodson

Either place will give you instructions on uploading your images and letting the yearbook staff know who is in the pictures!

While we cannot guarantee that all shared photos will be published, if you don’t share, your great pictures can’t even be considered! Start sharing today!

Contact Beth Koby, yearbook adviser, if you have problems. ewkoby@fcps.edu

New Student Summer Tours

All new transfer students (grades 9-12) and rising 9th grade students are invited to take tours of Woodson High School this summer. Student-led tours will be taking place from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on July 29th, July 31st, and August 6th.

To schedule a tour, please contact Woodson’s registrar Mrs. Lieb-Mosley at 703-503-4622 or via email at CLiebMosley@fcps.edu.

All tour time slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. In the event you cannot book a tour (and even if you do book a tour), we encourage all students to attend Cav Kickoff on August 22nd. At Cav Kickoff students will receive their schedule, locker information, have a chance to explore the building, and learn more about clubs, activities, and other ways to get involved in the Woodson community.

Do you recognize these keys?  They are all in the lost and found.  Please see Ms. O'Brien in the Main Office if you see your lost keys in this picture.

Important Update About FCPSOn

FCPSOn, our digital transformation initiative, will expand to all Fairfax County public high schools starting with the 2019-20 school year. FCPSOn provides equitable access to technology and to instructional practices that support students' development of Portrait of a Graduate attributes.

As part of the initiative, all high school students will be issued a laptop for learning at school and at home. An annual technology support fee of $50 will be charged to high school students. This fee will help ensure students have access to the technology they need by defraying the cost to repair and replace equipment, ensuring all students have the necessary laptops for testing, and providing back-up laptops as a substitute as needed.

Find out more about the technology support fee for FCPSOn.

FCPSOn Volunteer Opportunity

We are excited to be participating in the FCPSOn initiative. In order to ensure that every student is ready for the first day of school we will have five distribution dates at various times in August. It is our hope that everyone will be able to pick up their computers prior to the start of school.

In order for us to reach this goal we need help from the community. Please consider signing up for shifts to help with distribution. Students can earn service learning credit for helping. To sign up please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b45afaf2aa20-fcpson. If you have any questions about volunteering or distribution, please contact Stephanie Pollack (sepollack@fcps.edu).

Upgrades to PE Uniforms

Are you interested in purchasing an upgraded PE uniform, Woodson sweatshirt or sweatpants for next year?  If so, visit the Online Store to purchase by Sunday, June 16th.  Orders will get delivered to the school the week of July 29th for distribution.

This is for upgrades only.  Base PE uniforms and limited sweat pants/shirts will be available for purchase the first week of the 2019-2020 school year.

Where Are You Going to School Next Year?

If you will not be attending Woodson or a Fairfax County high school this fall, please let Woodson Student Services know now.

Please click here and fill out this form.  Student Services will make sure all transcripts are forwarded to your child’s new school so his/her file is complete.  If you have any questions, please contact Woodson registrar Christine Lieb-Mosley at 703-503-4622 or cliebmosley@fcps.edu.

2019 Congressional Award from U.S. Congress

Six Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students have been named recipients of the 2019 Congressional Award’s Gold Medal, the U.S. Congress’s award for young Americans.

From Virginia’s 11th Congressional District:

  • Manvi Punukollu, Woodson High School and Falls Church Academy.

The Congressional Award challenges students to set goals in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition-exploration. Participants earn gold, silver, and bronze Congressional Award medals and certificates. Students register for the program when they turn 13½ and must complete their activities by their 24th birthday.

Gold Medalists will be honored at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., in June.
