Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The school year is winding to a close and we couldn’t be prouder of our students’ accomplishments.  Mr. Credle and I have been amazed at our students’ performances in Band, Strings, Chorus, the Recorder Showcase, class plays and our upcoming Talent Show! Other students are demonstrating learning through performance-based assessments, SOL’s, Global Awareness Projects and end of year activities!   We have enjoyed this weeks’ class picnics and hope to see many of you next week to celebrate the end of the school year.  I know you will join me in helping to keep our students focused on learning and having fun while keeping it a safe environment during these last few weeks of school.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Authors' Day

Parents enjoyed hearing students share their writing as part of Authors' Day.

Literacy News

As we wrap up the school year, many grade levels have been working on content area research by combining science or social studies content and doing research to learn more.  Also, many grade levels have been doing book clubs in their classroom.  Students are reading novels in groups and learning how to talk about the character’s development and change throughout the story.  These clubs are a nice way to get our students ready for summer.  Encourage your child to start a book club in your neighborhood this summer.  This helps our students to understand how life long readers interact with texts in everyday life.  Our Fairfax County librarians will be coming next week to share some highlighted books with all grade levels.  These would be a great place to start for your book clubs!
