#OurFCPS Faces: Margery Sabolsky

Marjorie Sabolsky, Office of Payroll Management

Margery Sabolsky is an administrative assistant in the Department of Financial Services. She has made quite an impact since joining FCPS just over two years ago. Along with her general administrative duties, Margery says her biggest job responsibility is to promote FCPS’ Caring Culture. "On most days, I have the honor of being the face and voice of the Office of Payroll Management. Our goal is to make sure the majority of our calls are answered with a live voice or a visitor is personally greeted. A typical day in payroll is never dull, and I’ve learned to expect the unexpected.”

It's no surprise that Margery's favorite part of her job is "the people, of course." She says, "Whether it is a co-worker or a visiting employee, they need to know they matter. I am a firm believer [in the Maya Angelou philosophy] that people will likely forget what you said or did, but they don’t forget how you made them feel. As far as my job is concerned, my motto is: “How can I help you have a better day?”

Melissa Russell, director of payroll management, applauds Margery’s customer service skills. “Margery’s number one goal is to provide everyone with efficient and knowledgeable customer service with a personal touch. She is our office’s “manager of first impressions.”

Margery advises, “Don’t ever think you are too old to follow your dreams. […] I’ve spent the last 4+ years determined to finish the college education I started in 1982. I’m pleased to be in the last semester of a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.” She adds, “When I gain my free time back, my ideal use of [it] will be to spend time on the beach, under an umbrella, reading a good book, and snacking on an ample supply of my weakness, cookies!”

We like the way you think, Margery! Thanks so much for creating a caring and welcoming environment.
