LONGFELLOW LOVE

Dear Longfellow Families,
Thank you to those who have donated to our “Longfellow Love Program.” We now have 120 Longfellow students whose families live at or below the poverty level. So far, we have received 9 online donations from the 1,325 student families of 7th and 8th graders for the Summer Break Drive. This is a very busy time, so please take a moment to read one family’s story:
As you may have heard me mention at the PTA meeting, I visited one of our families where there were five children. Our Longfellow student said he had to make dinner for all the children. His parents work full time, and do not return until after midnight. I asked him what they were going to eat, and he pointed to one can of beans, for all of them to share. It was heartbreaking to hear this story, but I know our caring Longfellow families can and have made a huge difference for those in need.
During the school year, students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. But in the summer, there are no free meals from school for these kids. These families have to find ways to provide meals, afford basic clothing, pay for medical and utility bills, and purchase back to school supplies.
Your donation makes an immediate impact on LMS families-in-need, so please consider donating $25, $50, $100 or any amount! Again, ALL FUNDS go to the families for their personal expenses.
·      Click here to donate online, or
·      Drop off the checks written to Longfellow PTA in the “Longfellow Love” collection box in the front office, or
·      Drop Gift Cards (Safeway and Target are preferred) in the “Longfellow Love” collection box in the front office.
The deadline is Friday, May 24th by the end of the day, so that we may distribute the cards before the summer break.
With much gratitude,
Carole Kihm, Principal
and our Longfellow Love Committee
