Lunch Incident today

Fairfax County Public Schools sent this bulletin at 05/17/2019 11:54 AM EDT

Parents,

Today at approximately 10:45 AM during our first lunch shift, a student used the microwave in the cafeteria to warm up a sandwich that caught on fire. The sandwich was wrapped in tin foil and in a paper bag causing it to catch on fire. Within seconds, the fire was immediately put out with a fire extinguisher and students present in the cafeteria were evacuated to the courtyard. Once the microwave was taken out and the cafeteria windows were opened up to ventilate the cafeteria, all the smoke dissipated. Students were allowed to re-enter at that time and resume their lunch. The fire department was also notified immediately and they came out for inspection.
