May is Bike Month

2019 Bike to School Day Big Success

Over 90 FCPS Participate

Ninety-five Fairfax County Public Schools registered for Bike to School Day.  Most events took place on May 8th but several schools opted for another day in May.  There were Ninja Turtles and Crocodiles at Island Creek to greet students.  The FCPD were out helping many students navigate to school on their bikes.  A big thank you to all staff, parents and police that helped make Bike to School Day such a success.

If your school participated but didn't register there is still time to be counted or if you would like to designate a day later in May and have a Bike to School celebration Day, please register

Traffic Garden Installed at Hollin Meadows ES

HM traffic garden

Over Spring Break Fairfax Concrete and Paving installed a traffic garden at Hollin Meadows ES.  Hollin Meadows is almost finished renovation and one of the last things completed was the repaving and painting of the school's blacktop.  With a mini grant from Safe Routes to School and help from Fairfax County Community Services the traffic garden was partially funded.  Plans include more painting that will be completed by the PTA this summer.  Students will be participating in bike safety lessons this month on the new traffic garden!
