Positivity Project:  Other People Matter Mindset
Positive relationships can help people become happier, healthier, and more resilient.  Relationships are important in today’s world– and positive relationships cultivated through character can help our children become strong citizens and leaders.

PTA Positions Open
The PTA is in search of someone to fill two board positions for next year. We are currently seeking interested people for the Fundraisers chair and Treasurer. Without a person in the Treasurer role by June, the PTA will be unable to continue its great work. The treasurer and president positions are both required in order to exist as a PTA. If you’re interested in either of these roles, please email Susan Johnson susanjohnson50@gmail.

Class Placement Input Letters due this Friday, May 17
Class placement input letters were sent home Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the Thursday folders. We value and welcome your insights regarding your child’s learning needs. We will use this information in collaboration with staff input as we create class placements. Many factors are considered in determining class placement. We have an amazing staff and ask respectfully that you do not indicate teacher names on this form. In order to be considered, this form must be returned to the office no later than this Friday, May 17, 2019.

Community Meeting is next Monday, May 20
On Monday, May 20, 2019 at 6:30 pm, Wakefield Forest ES will host a community meeting in the cafeteria to discuss our current capacity and next steps as we move toward scheduled renovation. At the meeting, we will have representation from Region 5 leadership, facilities management and the School Board available to speak to these topics and to answer your questions. We hope you will engage in this community meeting.

Last day for library book checkout is May 24
The last day students may check books out of the WFES library is Friday, May 24. All student library books must be returned and library obligations satisfied by Friday, May 31. Please continue to check your child’s Thursday folders for overdue notices each week. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu.

WFES Edible School Garden Information Session and Tour: Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm
Help Our Garden Grow!  Whether you like to get your hands dirty or simply want to support the continuation of this unique, hands-on, learning opportunity, we invite you to come learn more about the WFES Edible Garden and the program we are building around it.

Research has shown that school gardening has a positive impact on nutritional knowledge and behaviors, academic indicators, and community connectedness. The edible garden at WFES is growing, but we need your help to keep it going. No garden experience or lengthy time commitments are required - just a desire to make sure our kids and community have access to school gardening, and a willingness to pitch in as your schedule allows.

If you are interested in learning more about gardening, the benefits of this program, or to join our Garden Committee, meet us at the WFES edible garden (across from the playground) Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm for an information session and tour.  All kids and parents are welcome and healthy, delicious snacks will be provided! To RSVP or ask questions, please contact Melissa Aune (703)399-6088 or melissaaune@gmail.com.
