Dear Stenwood Families:

It gives me such a sense of joy and peace to know that Mrs. Riley will be the new principal of Stenwood!  Though I am retiring at the end of July, I announced my retirement early, not because I like long goodbyes, but rather so that the school system had the opportunity to get the very best candidate for the principalship at Stenwood.  It worked!  I have the utmost respect for Mrs. Riley; she is a true professional and a wonderful person.  As I see it, only the very best for our very best school!

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Riley!

I had the pleasure of participating in the county’s retirement ceremony this past Tuesday with my family and friends.

Sincerely,
Principal Dammeyer
Principal Riley

Final Notice: Extended to

Monday, May 13th

If your child is definitely returning to Stenwood next school year or if there is a possibility of such, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments with me regarding class placement. Yes, our preparation for next year actually does begin now! Please see the message below:

Though every classroom is full of fun learning and is busy with the business of each day, at the same time, we are beginning to think and plan for next school year.  The grade level teams, in conjunction with our specialists, Mrs. Hapangama, Mrs. Riley, and I will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in late August.  As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships.  Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests.  Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please send a letter or email addressed to Peggy Dammeyer.  If sending via email, it would be most helpful if you included the name of your child/children and respective current grade levels within the subject line of the email. The letter must be in the office by Friday, May 3rd for it to be taken into consideration. Thank you.

Here are our SOL dates for students in 3rd – 6th grade.  We ask that parents please avoid scheduling vacations and appointments on the dates your child has an SOL.

Tdap

All Rising 6th graders:

Virginia Law requires that all students entering sixth grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of 11, although it can be given as early as seven years of age.

Please send in documentation of the Tdap to the front office staff as soon as possible.

Sixth grade students will not be allowed to begin school in August 2019 without submitting proper documentation

Lost and Found

Last day to pick up your lost item from the Cafeteria is on June 13th.  We have LOTS of water bottles, lunch bags, jackets, coats, etc. Thank you!

Library

Calling all library books!  It’s that time of year again, Mrs. Cole needs to start rounding up library books.  All books are due back to the library by May 31st.  Students are still able to check out until that date, however, if they have overdue books, they will not be able to check out until the books are returned or paid for.  Please check with Mrs. Cole if you are unsure of your child’s library account.  Thank you.
