Staff Appreciation

Oak Hill's Awesome Staff enjoying painting as part of Staff Appreciation Week.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank yous are in order to my fabulous staff at Oak Hill!  As you know, our teachers, specialists, instructional assistants, itinerants, assistant principal, custodians, food workers and office staff work hard every day to support the students at Oak Hill.  Their day doesn’t end at dismissal.  They are taking professional development classes to learn new instructional strategies, they are meeting in collaborative learning teams to plan instruction or having rich discussions over students who are needing more opportunities to learn standards.  Many are firing up their computers at home to assess student work in Google Classroom or to work virtually with teachers across the county and the state to work on lessons together.  But don’t forget that each evening the mom and dad hats have to go on as well!

So, I ask that you pause for a moment and let someone at Oak Hill know what it is that you have recognized and appreciated this school year.  One thank you goes a long way!  And finally thank you to our wonderful PTA and all the parents who donated items or sent a monetary donation to be used this week.  The Oak Hill teachers and I are so appreciative for the thoughtfulness shown this week.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Back-to-School Night and Open House Information

For the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, we will be changing the format of our Back-to-School Night and Open House.  Teachers and parents have requested to receive information prior to school starting in order for students to be successful starting on day one.  Also, both of these events provide a similar purpose, so in an effort to make things more streamlined and efficient, we will be combining the events. We are joining many of our Chantilly Pyramid schools, as well as many FCPS schools in doing so.  We would love some feedback from parents on the best format to combine these two events.  Our Open House and BTSN will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019.  We are  resending a flyer listing the options in your student's Wednesday folder today.  Please take a look at the flyer and scan the QR code to give us feedback via a google form by Monday, May 13, 2019.

Pedal It Out

Dogfish Head Alehouse in Fairfax is hosting Pedal it Out on May 21 from 11:30am - 11:00pm.  Dogfish will donate 15% of all proceeds to Pedal it Out.  This will benefit Osteosarcoma Collaborative in support of Reed Morgan and families experiencing Childhood Cancer through The Nancy Smith Kabance Grant.  For more information visit www.dogfishalehouse.com.  We will send the flyer home on May 14th in case you are interested in supporting this fundraiser.

PTA Summer Book Exchange

The Oak Hill PTA’s annual Summer Book Exchange—a great way for students to trade books they have read and enjoyed—will be held during school on June 4 and 5. Books are being collected now through Monday, June 3. Students may bring in gently used books, leave them in the Summer Book Exchange bin in the lobby, and take a receipt good for an equal number of books (up to 15 books). On June 4 (grades 4 – 6) and June 5 (grades pre-K – 3), each class will have time at the book exchange when students who submitted books can bring their receipts and “shop” for their selections. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Faye Morrison at fayelunn@gmail.com.

Spring into Summer

Mark your calendars for Oak Hill Carnival!  The Oak Hill PTA will be hosting the Spring Carnival 2019 on Friday, June 7th from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at Oak Hill ES Fields. There will be several tables/booths, food, prizes and lot more activities for kids.

We are in in the process of forming a volunteering committee to plan/organize the event to make it a fun filled day for our kids! If you are interested to be part of the volunteering committee and enhance/build your event planning skills, please send an email to events@oakhillpta.org
