Glasgow Community Gazette - May 5

Glasgow Community:

Greetings from Hershey, Pennsylvania where Claire and I joined hundreds of our students on the spring “Music in the Park” trip. I was incredibly proud of not only our students’ performances, but also their behavior and support of each other. It was a remarkable statement of school culture and community that they were so eager to celebrate each other and our school accomplishments. Thank you to our incredible performing arts team for their hard work: Andrew Sharrock, Tammy Freeman, Steve Shook and Miranda Lansberry!

This week marks the beginning of SOL testing. These tests can be one of many important opportunities for students to demonstrate the learning they have done this school year. On days when your student is scheduled to take an SOL test, please ensure that they get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast and come to school ready to show what they know! You can find the schedule below.

Finally, this week is also Teacher Appreciation Week. One of the most meaningful and important ways you can support our teachers is by telling them stories about how they have impacted your student. Please take time this week to send an email or write a note to your student’s teacher celebrating one way they have helped your student grow this year. We love working with your students every day and hearing the impact it has is incredibly rewarding.

With the support of the Glasgow PTA, we have organized the following events to show our appreciation for our teachers and staff members:

* Monday, May 6 – PTA Breakfast which consists of yogurt, fruit, breakfast pastries, water, juice and coffee.

* Tuesday, May 7 – PTA Salad Bar Lunch along with all the fixings and drinks.

* Wednesday, May 8 – Admin will be providing Moe’s lunch to the entire staff.

* Thursday, May 9 – PTA is sponsoring a catered luncheon from Glory Days.

* Friday, May 10 – A special “cold” treat from Admin.

Thank you in advance for reaching out to our amazing teachers and as always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Shawn DeRose, Principal

Glasgow Featured on NPR - Join the Mystery Skype craze! In late winter, Marc Perella’s FIT participated in a Mystery Skype activity with a school in St. Augustine, FL. Our librarian, Tara Sanz tweeted about their adventure and was soon contacted by NPR’s reporter, Amanda Morris, who wanted to see Mystery Skype in action for an article she had been working on for All Things Considered and NPR news.  Here is a link for the NPR article:  https://www.npr.org/2019/05/03/719103958/classes-take-trips-around-the-world-through-this-game
