WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Weekly Message

BandStrings

The Wakefield Forest Band and Strings presented two wonderful concerts last week.

Positivity Project:  Leadership
Leadership means that you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best.  Good leaders have the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.

Help needed during SOLs
We are looking for volunteers to help maintain quiet in selected hallways during SOLs.  We’re also asking for volunteers who might be interested in helping out in the cafeteria while many of our cafeteria monitors are assisting with testing.  Please go to the link below to sign up:

Playground Rules
We understand there has been some discussion in the community regarding the rule about no running in the fenced playground area.  As always, safety is our number one concern; this rule was a recommendation from the FCPS playground safety expert. At times the playground can have more than 100 students on it.  It’s an exciting sight, as the students are truly loving the new equipment.  However, with students running in all different directions in a fairly small area, there is a high potential for accidental injuries.  We realize that running is important, and the students are always able to run and play on our extensive field area.

Tomorrow is Walk/Bike to School Day
Wakefield Forest is participating in the national Walk/Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8.  We encourage students and families to use foot power to get to school that day if possible!

Salad Bar opens for business
We are happy to announce that our salad bar will begin tomorrow, May 8.  By the end of today, all students will have attended a brief introduction on how it will function.  A Food Services employee has been assigned to the salad bar to help the students.

Community Meeting is May 20
On Monday, May 20, 2019 at 6:30 pm, Wakefield Forest ES will host a community meeting in the cafeteria to discuss our current capacity and next steps as we move toward scheduled renovation. At the meeting, we will have representation from Region 5 leadership, facilities management and the School Board available to speak to these topics and to answer your questions. We hope you will engage in this community meeting.

Class Placement Input Letters
Class placement input letters were sent home Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the Thursday folders. We value and welcome your insights regarding your child’s learning needs. We will use this information in collaboration with staff input as we create class placements. Many factors are considered in determining class placement. We have an amazing staff and ask respectfully that you do not indicate teacher names on this form. In order to be considered, this form must be returned to the office no later than Friday, May 17, 2019.
