AP INFORMATION

Important information for AP Testing and FAQ can be found at  https://langleyhs.fcps.edu/student-services/student-testing/ap-questions-and-answers.

AP Exam Schedule can found here. Please note that most exams are 3+ hours in length which do not take into account instructions, breaks, and handing out/collecting of materials.  If you are taking an afternoon exam, chances are students will not be finished before the end of the school day to catch the bus.  Bus riders need to make arrangements for rides on the day of afternoon exams.

Did you know…Virginia Department of Health has posted the 2018 overdose data collected from the Medical Examiners office. Unfortunately, the numbers are worse  than 2017. The number of fatal fentanyl overdoses in 2018 compared to 2017 increased by 5.6%, 813 deaths.  The number of  fatal heroin overdoses in 2018 compared to 2017 was nearly identical, 555 deaths. Cocaine is on the rise since 2015 because of fentanyl.  The number of fatal cocaine overdoses in 2018 compared to 2017 increased by 11.5%, 445 deaths. Please note that there are still 30 deaths open which could add to these numbers. Here is the full report

Summer Opportunities for Learning

Registration for Online Campus and Credit-recovery courses will be open April 29-June 14, 2019.

Please know that if you plan on enrolling in a summer course, we are unable to move students into the next level without official records (a transcript) showing the completion the course taken. While we are unable to guarantee placement in these courses, we can better plan (and therefore increase your child’s likelihood of being able to enroll in a specific class) for the next school year.  We will be sending out a survey link via email to those students signing up for online courses.

If you are taking a course outside of FCPS you must obtain permission to transfer credit PRIOR to enrolling in any non-FCPS program using the IS-159 found here: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/is158.pdf

More information regarding FCPS Summer Opportunities can be found here: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning-programs

Summer Opportunities for Service

Internship Assisting with FCPSON Monday, July 1 to early August 8am-3pm, Monday-Friday

Looking for 20-30 students to earn service hours by assisting Mr. Choobineh, Langley’s Technology Support Specialist, for the month of July into early August as Langley unloads and prepares 2100 computers for school year 2019-20.  Students will unpack, inventory, and prepare the computers for distribution in early August.  No computer technology experience required.

Contact Betsy Shomaker at enshomaker@fcps.edu or 703-287-2723

MySchoolBucks

Please remember to add money to your child’s school nutrition account.  All accounts must be brought current before the end of the school year in June. Visit MySchoolBucks.

Learn more about this online payment portal for many school fees.  Parents can set up an account which they link their student(s) to so there is one account per family.  Course fees, lunch funds, obligations, some ticket events can be taken care of online. MySchoolBucks eliminates the need for students to carry cash to school and for multiple checks to be written.

Seniors

To avoid long lines to clear their records at the time of graduation rehearsal (textbooks, parking tickets, class dues, library obligations, etc.), it is strongly recommended that you settle any financial obligations prior to leaving for Langley Leap.

If you have any questions please contact Ms. Kimsey at lakimsey@fcps.edu.

The Library Extended After School hours will end on Thursday, May 9th.

Seniors:  SERVICE CORD and Diploma CIVIC SEAL applications are due Friday, May 17th

Parking hang tag applications for the 19-20 school year will be available in the main office on Monday, May 20 and will be accepted thru Monday, June 7, 3:30 PM.  All applications must include a copy of the student’s driver’s license.

All completed/signed applications will be limited to rising seniors, applications for rising juniors will not be accepted at this time.  In the fall, if spaces are available for limited junior parking, information for a lottery will be made available with applications accepted at that time.

Payment for the parking hang tag ($200) will be accepted beginning mid-July through www.myschoolbucks.com .  Checks will no longer be accepted.  All unpaid parking tickets and school obligations must be paid prior to applying/receiving a hang tag.  Payment for outstanding obligations can also be made at www.myschoolbucks.com in the School Store.

LOST AND FOUND

Missing a jacket or sweatshirt? It may be in Langley’s very large lost & found collection. Please stop by the lost and found box located in the cafeteria.

The Perfect Graduation Gift!

Langley's Tech Ed department is beginning work on the Legacy Tree--- a beautiful work of art that's helping us raise funds for our courtyard renovation fundraiser. The plan is to have the tree up in Langley's lobby (across from the office) for all to enjoy before the end of the school year. Donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500) to the Legacy Tree engraved with your family or student's name is a great way to leave your mark on Langley. The Legacy Tree will be permanent, prominent record of generous courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, teams/activities, and friends!

To order your leaf -- or leaves! -- visit the ptsa website, ptsalangley.org -- and click on the green tab that says "Make a Donation."
