Confidential consultations, an extensive lending library, and a year-long calendar of workshops are offered for parents, educators, and community members. High School Prep: A Strategic Transition from Middle School to High School
If you've got a tween, you know that middle school is no cake walk. Multiple teachers, personal schedule responsibility, and long-term assignments all require more independent thought and focus. In ninth grade, that reality gets kicked up a notch. Join the PRC for this workshop to learn:
- How to finish middle school strong while building positive habits for the future.
- How to make the shift from guided to independent learning so your child doesn't feel overwhelmed or lost.
- The secret to effective time management as a high-school student balancing academics with sports, activities, friends, and work.
- How your teen can manage his or her all-important social life so it doesn’t interfere with school.
This workshop is presented by Ann Dolin, M.Ed., educational consultant and award-winning author. Ann is the President and Director of Educational Connections, Inc.

Digital Citizenship: Tips for Parents
As parents in the digital age, being aware, alert, and involved in your children's use of the internet is crucial. What else can you do to keep your child safe on the internet? Digital Citizenship can be described as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior, its positive and negative impact on self and others, with regard to technology use. It is important for parents to help their child become safe, ethical, responsible, and respectful digital citizens. Join the PRC for this workshop to learn necessary supports so all students have a safe online space in which to learn healthy and respectful technology use at home and school. Richard Stegman, Andrea Jones, and Erika Deem, members of the FCPS Digital Citizenship team will present this workshop for all parents.

Emergency Preparedness for Parents of Students with Disabilities
For the millions of Americans with disabilities, natural and human-made disasters present a substantial challenge. Fairfax County's Office of Emergency Management is committed to the inclusion of all by spreading the message of preparedness to its residents with disabilities with access and functional needs. Join the Office of Emergency Management for a discussion on emergency preparedness for your family, plans that exist in Fairfax County for evacuation and sheltering, and accommodations that might be needed during an emergency for your child.

Register for Emergency Preparedness for Parents of Students with Disabilities
Each spring, Career and Transition Services conducts the annual Survey of School Leavers as required by Federal law. Attempts will be made to reach any student that had an IEP and left the school system during the 2017-2018 school year. Students, or their parents, will receive a phone call or electronic survey to determine if a student is currently in postsecondary education or training, employed, engaged with an adult service agency, or unengaged. Additional questions attempt to find out if a student is satisfied with their high school preparation and their current life in general. The information is confidential. In addition to reporting the data to the state Department of Education, follow-up data helps us make decisions for improving and enhancing services for students with disabilities.
During the 2018-19 school year, Assistive Technology Services (ATS) will be offering training sessions focused on the use of high-end Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Participants will learn basic programming and maintenance of the devices, as well as integration ideas. These sessions are open to both staff and parents of students using the specific devices. To register, contact the ATS Resource Teacher who supports your school. May sessions will include the following topics:
- May 7, 2019, 9 a.m.-noon, Words for Life App – Lanier Middle School
- May 13, 2019, 9 a.m.-noon, Proloquo2Go App – Leis Center
- May 14, 2019, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., PRC Devices – Lanier Middle School
- May 21, 2019, 9 a.m.-noon, Words for Life App – Virginia Hills Center

2019 SUMMER ESY direct, class-based services will be July 1-26, 2019. July 4 and 5 will be student holidays. Site information, feeder lists, and bell schedules are now posted on the Extended School Year website

The scoring event will be held at Virginia Hills in Alexandria on the following dates:
- Secondary: April 30 and May 1, 2019
- Elementary: May 2 and May 3, 2019

Direct, class-based ESY dates will be July 1-26, 2019. July 4 and 5 will be holidays. ESY job opportunities are available. Instructional staff contracts will begin in June, so please make note of the start date for these positions as all staff are expected to work on all contracted days.
