Bike Safety Unit (PE)
Fairhill ES has been awarded a grant of 30 bicycles, helmets and a storage shed.
Dates: Monday May 6th- Friday May 24th during your child’s PE class.
- Grades: 4th – 6th
- Students may bring their own bike and can lock it up on our bike rack outside the cafeteria. The students should take their bike home every day. We cannot assure the security of their bikes.
- We encourage students to bring their own helmets. No sharing of helmets or bicycles please. And no bikes on the bus.
- We have BMX bikes with a coaster brake and a hand brake. Also we have two larger bikes with gears.
- Some students are beginning riders, so we’ll have a special area for them to learn. Over the years we’ve taught many, many students how to ride.
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need a volunteer to help with monitoring the students on Mon/Wed/Fri of the bike unit weeks. This is very important for our students safety. Here’s the link to sign up .

Tiger Share
We are looking for volunteers to help pack up and deliver food donations on either Thursday or Friday each week. We have found that picking up at the end of the week works best to ensure a greater food collection and to maintain freshness for perishable items, but we can be flexible. If you need to do a different day than the one specified on the calendar, please note the date in the comment section.
Volunteers will empty the refrigerator into the collection bin and deliver the donations to Food for Others (2938 Prosperity Ave. Fairfax, VA). An employee/volunteer at FFO will take care of the unloading process.
If you are interested in volunteering please sign up using the sign up genius below:

Innovation Fair
Innovation is the key to unlocking mysteries, creating solutions, increasing efficiency, and changing our world. To foster this mind-set, we are excited to present the fourth-ever Fairhill Innovation Fair! The Innovation Fair is for all students from K – 6th grade, and is voluntary. Every child is encouraged to participate! Participants can be individuals or teams (not necessarily in the same grade). Registration forms are coming home today and need to be filled out and returned no later than Wednesday, May 21st. Projects need to be turned in on Thursday, June 6th to allow for proper setup. Students can bring their project to school or parents can drop it off at the library between 5:30 and 6:00 on Thursday, June 6. The Innovation Fair Community viewing and activities will be held on Thursday, June 6th from 6:00 – 7:30pm. The schoolwide viewing will be held throughout the schoolday on Friday, June 7th. Students will orally be able to share about their design during the community viewing by standing near the project and answering questions and telling about it as others visit (optional). Each participant will receive a certificate from the Principal for submitting a design. Projects must be taken home on Friday, June 7th at dismissal. Most of all, the Innovation Fair is for students to HAVE FUN with Engineering Design Process! We look forward to seeing your child’s great project!

Staff Appreciation
This week our school will have our annual Staff Appreciation week where we try to shower the Fairhill staff with our gratitude and appreciation for all they do for our students. Please click this link: http://fairhillpta.org/staff-appreciation-week/ to sign up for different ways to help make it a great week for our amazing staff.
Suggested ways for your family to show Fairhill Teachers and Staff your appreciation for all they do:
Wednesday 5/1 - "thank your specialists day" - take today to personally thank the specialists who do so much for our children
Friday 5/3 - "brighten their day" by sending in fresh flowers for your child to give to teachers and staff of their choice
*These are only suggestions and ideas. Your family is welcome to do anything you would like to show your gratitude for the amazing staff of Fairhill!
As a reminder, you can reference the following link to see favorite things sheets filled out by teachers and staff that will help you personalize your ideas to show appreciation during this special week:

The PTA Needs YOU!
Next years' PTA Board and Leadership positions are beginning to come together. Elections will be held at our May 9th PTA meeting (please come!) We need a few more dedicated volunteers to fill some gaps that we have to keep the PTA going strong next year. Please consider one of these roles and reach out to Angie Roeder at president@fairhillpta.org if you have questions or would like further details.
The current positions we are looking to fill are:
President Elect
Fall Festival Coordinator
Box Tops for Education Coordinator
For detailed role descriptions, please go to http://fairhillpta.org/about-us/positions-available/
Volunteering for a PTA leadership position is a great way to get to know our wonderful principals, teachers and staff better. It's an amazing cause to give back to that directly benefits your children and our wonderful school.
