Summer Opportunities for Learning

Registration for Online Campus and Credit-recovery courses will be open April 29-June 14, 2019.

Please know that if you plan on enrolling in a summer course, we are unable to move students into the next level without official records (a transcript) showing the completion the course taken. While we are unable to guarantee placement in these courses, we can better plan (and therefore increase your child’s likelihood of being able to enroll in a specific class) for the next school year.  We will be sending out a survey link via email to those students signing up for online courses.

If you are taking a course outside of FCPS you must obtain permission to transfer credit PRIOR to enrolling in any non-FCPS program using the IS-159 found here: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/is158.pdf

More information regarding FCPS Summer Opportunities can be found here: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning-programs

Summer Opportunities for Service

Internship Assisting with FCPSON Monday, July 1 to early August 8am-3pm, Monday-Friday

Looking for 20-30 students to earn service hours by assisting Mr. Choobineh, Langley’s Technology Support Specialist, for the month of July into early August as Langley unloads and prepares 2100 computers for school year 2019-20.  Students will unpack, inventory, and prepare the computers for distribution in early August.  No computer technology experience required.

Contact Betsy Shomaker at enshomaker@fcps.edu or 703-287-2723

MySchoolBucks

Please remember to add money to your child’s school nutrition account.  All accounts must be brought current before the end of the school year in June. Visit MySchoolBucks.

Learn more about this online payment portal for many school fees.  Parents can set up an account which they link their student(s) to so there is one account per family.  Course fees, lunch funds, obligations, some ticket events can be taken care of online. MySchoolBucks eliminates the need for students to carry cash to school and for multiple checks to be written.

Parents and guardians, a friendly reminder that you are asked to limit student drop off and pick up to the school’s designated Kiss and Ride. Using other locations poses a safety hazard for students.

The Fairfax County Police Department are issuing traffic citations to people violating parking restrictions in Langley Oaks. Entrance #1 is not to be used to pick up or drop off students. This includes parking spaces in front of the building.

May 15 -- Phase 1 Courtyard Donation Deadline! It's time to make some tough choices. On May 16, we'll be meeting with the landscape architects from Wheat's Landscaping to determine which elements we can afford to include in Phase 1 of Langley's three courtyard renovations and which will have to wait. If you'd like your courtyard donation to be included in Phase 1, donate by May 15!  The more Saxons who donate before May 15th, the more we can accomplish in Phase 1 of the courtyard renovation process!

Even better: If every Langley family donates before the May 15 deadline, we could complete the entire courtyard project in one fell swoop! Help us reach the finish line! Consider donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500) to the Legacy Tree. You choose the engraved message! The Legacy Tree, a wall sculpture that will soon adorn Langley's lobby (across from the office), will serve as a permanent and prominent record of generous courtyard contributors and will be a lasting legacy for both Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, and graduates! To order your leaf -- or leaves! -- visit the PTSA website, ptsalangley.org. Questions? Email chrissielavin1@gmail.com

AP Testing is just around the corner and it will not be a success without parent volunteers.  We could really use the support of our parents to help proctor AP Exams.  Responsibility includes 3.5 hours of time either in the morning or afternoon, handing out and collecting test materials, monitoring students during testing etc. If your student is currently enrolled in an AP course(s) you are not allowed to proctor that specific exam(s).  If you are interested in proctoring please use the sign up genius below.  We really appreciate the support!

  • AP Pre-registration will begin the week of April 8th.  These sessions will run through Government, English Language, and World History.  We will also host two Saxon Time sessions for students not enrolled in the above courses that week.  As a reminder this AP pre-registration session is ONLY for students CURRENTLY enrolled in AP courses for the 2018/2019 school year.

  • Attendance:  Langley High School expects students to be present in class when not taking an AP Exam, but recognize that students may not be able to focus on their classes just prior to or after an exam.  The following rules will be in effect for AP exams:  Students wishing to leave after a morning exam or arrive later in the day for an afternoon exam must fill out the attached AP Excused Absence Form. Excuse forms must be turned to Mrs. Schultz in the attendance office as soon as possible but no later than April 26th. Forms will NOT be accepted after this date. No passes will be issued through the attendance office and phone calls, emails, and faxes will not be accepted during the testing weeks. The AP pass can be found at  https://langleyhs.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/AP%20Pass.pdf
  • Important information for AP Testing  is attached and FAQ can be found at  https://langleyhs.fcps.edu/student-services/student-testing/ap-questions-and-answers.

  • Below  (and attached) you will find the testing schedule and times for the AP Exams.  Please note that most exams are 3+ hours in length which do not take into account instructions, breaks, and handing out/collecting of materials.  If you are taking an afternoon exam, chances are students will not be finished before the end of the school day to catch the bus.  Bus riders need to make arrangements for rides on the day of afternoon exams.
