Our Spring Book Fair was a roaring success! WSES students discover new books to expand their horizons with.
To increase our student and staff safety, visitors will be asked to identify their purpose prior to entering the school building. Please do not hold the door open for visitors behind you or let them in as you leave. Upon entry, visitors are to go directly to the office to sign in (with your driver’s license) to obtain a visitor’s sticker. Thank you for understanding this change to increase our school security.
Attention parents of rising Kindergartners! You and your rising Kindergartner are invited to attend WSES’ Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, April 5 from 2:30-3:30 pm in the cafeteria. Thank You PTA and Parents! WSES faculty and staff want to send out a BIG thank you for our delicious Sweet Shoppe candy bar last week! It was the perfect break to the rainy day. Donations were so generous that it took our 80+ WSES staff two days to get through most of the candy and there was still bunches left over.
Pennies for Patients Last year, WSES supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through Pennies for Patients. This year, we will be showing our support in a new way. The Kona Ice Truck will be at WSES selling shaved ice on Friday, March 29th from 5:30-7:30pm. The cost ranges from $3-$7 and 30% of the proceeds go to Pennies for Patients! Please stop by before, during, or after the Science Fair and STEAM night to show your support for Pennies for Patients.
Did you know this is the fourth year that West Springfield Elementary will be taking an All-School photo? The first All-School photo was taken for WSES’ 50th anniversary at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. This year, our All-School photo will be taken on April 4 after the school-wide field trip. Say cheese!
Kindergarten students chose an animal that they are similar to in some way. For example, “I am like a cheetah because I can run fast!”. They created their animal using colorful tissue paper and painted the environment in the background.
First grade artists have completed a printmaking project of their house and are now working on creating a 3-dimensional dream house for their family using a stuffed paper bag and cut paper.
Second graders have finished their clay animals, landscape paintings showing the illusion of depth, and are now moving on the a paper collage about a community event they have participated in.
Third graders have finished their clay animal pinch pots about an animal that is important to them, their family, or culture. They have also just finished creating printing plates by gluing string in the shape of their face showing an emotion they have felt. They used this printing plate to create several prints.
Fourth grade artists are finishing up several projects including clay coil pots, landscape paintings of a place in Virginia and a chalk pastel drawing of themselves in an action pose.
Fifth graders are finishing up both their altered landscape paintings and faux stained glass projects inspired by the Positivity Project character trait they connect with most.
Sixth grade students are working on carving printing plates out of linoleum. They will use these printing plates to create prints of their faces showing a reaction that they had to a particular event. After printmaking, they will move on to a painting where they can decide what gets built on a piece of undeveloped land that will benefit their community.
Check out all completed artwork on our website Artsonia.com! And stay tuned for information about our Pyramid Art Show coming in May!
