From the Principal

Family,

I want to thank those of you who were able to come out to the Principal’s Coffee this week. I have always enjoyed those conversations and I just wanted to say that I appreciate our talks and I hope that this is a forum that we can have even more families to come out and be a part of. The reason I believe that this is important is because this is an opportunity for you all to share your experiences with South County. Something that you may experience could very well clear up something another family is either considering, or even looking forward to. Communication is critical these days, and I again appreciate that you choose to come out and share with me and one another.

I shared with you that I have been committed to ensuring that we are building relationships all across the building. At this month’s faculty meeting we had another department introduction. The Mathematics department did an outstanding job sharing juicy tidbits about themselves with the rest of the staff. I think these opportunities to get to know one another will foster cross-curricular conversations that will eventually, provide a positive impact for all students.

As we continue to progress along in the school year, the FCPSOn initiative rollout gets closer and closer. I had our School Based Technology Support Specialist, Mrs. Leslie Lewis, and Mr. Mike Pflugrath, Assistant Principal, come to speak at a PTSO meeting a month ago to share where we are in the process. We expect that there are many questions about how this will effect instruction, and how much time the students will be expected to be on the computers, and will the students be asked to wrap the laptops in bubble wrap, and.... :). In all seriousness, please be sure to let us know if you have concerns through our Google form. https://goo.gl/forms/dlhMWTGMMTnipvj53.

I was asked in the parent coffee, to address vaping in this week’s KIT message. Vaping is still a concern in the schools, and this does not exclude South County. As we continue to be proactive in our building through increasing our security efforts, and conversations with our students, I am asking that our families also engage in conversations at home. Please take time to get your child’s perspective on what is going on. I will be taking time to speak with our students about how we can work to greatly reduce the use in our building. I thank you in advance for your assistance with this issue.

Have a great weekend Family, and take care of yourselves and one another. #OneStallion
