THE REBEL WEARS PRADA FASHION SHOW!

Dear Family Fairfax,

Happy Friday!   This afternoon I celebrated my first fashion show at FHS.  It was fun to see this completely student-driven extravaganza (I can’t call it an “event.”  It was so much more than that!).   A production at this level takes many collaborative, creative, and communicative people, and to think that they were all in high school!  My picture above doesn’t begin to capture their work.

I have asked the PTSA for food donations for students, and I have been thankful to receive many items.  In speaking with a number of staff members, we could really use your continued donations all year for our students.  Teachers would love to stock small pantries in their classroom…we have so much to be thankful for, it is nice to see how openly our community gives back to our students, over and over again.

We had our Rebels on the Rise awards on Tuesday morning.  This award, nominated by teachers, is given to students who go above and beyond in class, challenge themselves and others, and are constantly inspiring their peers.  It was fun to hear the counselors speak about each student receiving an award, see the smiling faces of our community, and hear the collective applause of our students each time a classmate was called forward.  On Sunday, I am looking forward to applauding the work of many in our region at the science fair, and especially, our students who are competing.

Speaking of PTSA, please come out to their meeting on Tuesday at 6PM and our showing of Angst at 6:45PM.  More information about the film can be found below!

I hope you enjoy a beautiful weekend.

Angst

ANGST: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

A reminder that on Tuesday, March 19, at 6:45 p.m. in the Fairfax Auditorium, join us for a free screening of ANGST, a film about anxiety, truth & hope. https://angstmovie.com/

No tickets are required, but please RSVP here to help us estimate attendance.

This documentary, produced by IndieFlix, is for all parents and guardians of students in grades K-12 and students over the age of 13.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment. Everyone involved in the development of “Angst” has a personal experience with anxiety – from the producers to the interviewees.

Representatives will be available after the screening to provide resources to support families.

For more information about this event, please contact Fairfax Director of Student Services, Laura Rotella at larotella@fcps.edu
