Cardinal's Message

Cardinal's Message

Dear Cardinal Families and Friends,

Finally, a full week of school in 2019 here at Cunningham Park.  The students were excited to be here and their enthusiasm shone throughout the week.  In music classes, the sounds of recorders filled our hallways.  It was great to hear and see the participation by students who play the recorder.  In PE, our badminton unit started.  Birdies were flying all over the gym as students learned to volley and serve to one another.  In art class, students continued working on their stitching projects.  A first grader stated, “Football players stitch in the offseason to strengthen their hands.”  They all did an outstanding job with their projects.  On Friday, fifth graders had a poetry celebration, where they displayed original poems while their classmates wrote positive words of encouragement about the poems.  The creativity displayed through their poems was a sight to see!

Don’t forget about Daylight Savings time this weekend, set those clocks ahead an hour.  We also have a three-hour early release Monday for students.  Have a restful and fun weekend.

Katie Le, Principal and Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

Reminder: How to Change Your Child's Dismissal Temporarily

If your child is going home with a friend or has any other change in his/her usual dismissal plan, you must notify the office before noon that day. If the plans involve going home with another child or getting picked up by another parent, it is your responsibility to ensure the other family notifies the office prior to noon as well. Notice must be received from all parties before noon in order to authorize the dismissal change. This also applies to riding the bus home with a friend - temporary bus riders need a yellow bus pass from the office or the driver may not let them on.

One Easy Way to Do this: Email CunninghamParkElem.Attendance@fcps.edu and copy your child’s teacher. It may also be helpful to include any other parents involved so they can just “reply all” to confirm.

In the case of an emergency, remember to use your emergency contacts as they are authorized to pick up your child.  Through weCare@school you can manage your emergency medical information, and enter and update your child’s medical data at your convenience online.

Thank you for your cooperation as we all work together to ensure a safe and expedient dismissal.

Call for Donations for the ESOL Department

Hello Cardinal Families!

Are you thinking about starting your spring cleaning?  While you clear out, think about our summer "Keep Reading" program for our beginning language learners here at Cunningham Park.

We collect gently used children's books, games, and puzzles to give out at the end of the school year.

Monetary donations are welcome as well.  Make checks payable to Cunningham Park Elementary School and write "Keep Reading" in the for line.

Drop off donations any day, just address them to Laurie Chaker.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Laurie Chaker, ESOL Teacher, Cunningham Park Elementary School
