Youth Art Month Exhibit

art

Reception: Sunday, March 10, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

To celebrate National Youth Art Month, children from eight Reston elementary schools have created a special exhibit of original artwork that will be displayed in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery and the 3D Gallery at RCC Lake Anne. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception on March 10, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The eight Fairfax County elementary schools participating in the exhibit are Aldrin, Armstrong, Dogwood, Hunters Woods, Forest Edge, Lake Anne, Sunrise Valley and Terraset. National Youth Art Month has been observed annually since 1961. It emphasizes the value of art education and encourages support for quality school art programs.

IB LEARNER PROFILE OF THE MONTH: Balanced

balanced

We are looking forward to focusing on the attribute of balanced during the month of March.  We will focus on what it looks like and sounds like to be balanced at school, home, and in our community.

As balanced individuals we:

*understand the importance of intellectual, physical, and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for ourselves and others

*recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live

Here are some ideas to promote the attribute of balanced at home:

  1. Look for opportunities to be active together after school and on the weekends.
  2. Discuss making healthy choices for a balanced meal with your child.
  3. Have a conversation with your child about things they are really good at and things they really enjoy doing.

Here are some books that can support the conversation of being balanced:

A PTO meeting featuring band and strings musicians

Dogwood 5th and 6th grade strings are excited to perform at the PTO meeting. We will be playing two selections. The first on will be A Twinkle Variation arranged by myself and dedicated to Dogwood Strings.  We are excited to premiere this piece followed with Oats and Peas and Beans, an American fiddle tune. We will be playing the melody the first time around and when we repeat, our lower strings will bring out a percussive “slap” while the students who chose to prepare a more advanced version of the fiddle tune will play along with the original melody. We look forward to sharing this music with you.

Please join members of the Dogwood Advanced Band as they perform a preview of their spring performance with a crowd favorite: “The Hey” Song.  This song is a stadium favorite across the world. They will also perform an exciting concert band selection called “Dragon Dance”. This music in “Dragon Dance”  is inspired by the festival celebrating the Chinese New Year.

Engagement Survey

Dear Families,

Fairfax County Public Schools will be conducting a survey to gather information about family engagement in our schools. Relationships are important to us, and your opinion is critical to help us support your engagement in your child’s education. Your feedback will also help us determine how well we are reaching the goals for Caring Culture we have set in our Strategic Plan. Survey translations will be made available, and the survey can be taken on electronic devices, including smartphones.

Survey administration is scheduled for March 24-April 12, 2019, and you will receive more information about how to take the survey in the near future.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Mie Devers

School Health Services Survey

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms. This may include principals, school counselors, and main office staff members. The survey has been approved for distribution by the FCPS’ Internal Survey Advisory Committee.

Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed at:

School Health Services Survey – Parents 2019: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/85QGH7C

School Health Services Survey-Parents 2019 (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LLSF55F

School Health Services Survey – STAFF 2019: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L87BPDZ

The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and will provide the FCHD with valuable information.  Your participation in this important endeavor is appreciated.
