Kindness Rocks

kindness rocks

The Kindness Rocks Project is a movement that seeks to "cultivate connections within communities and lift others up through simple acts of kindness." At Oak Hill, we strive to do the same by celebrating kindness and inclusion throughout the school year. This March we are honored to have Meg Murphy, founder of The Kindness Rocks Projects, come speak at our school about cultivation of kindness and how one simple act can influence the community around us. In conjunction with Meg Murphy's visit, Oak Hill will be doing our own kindness project for our students and community. We plan to create a kindness garden so students, staff and parents can see kindness inside and outside of our school. For more information about Kindness Rocks click here.

3rd recorders

Third graders work on learning their recorder music.

Music News

Third graders have been excitedly learning to play the recorder!  If you are a parent of one of these budding musicians, thank you for your patience and for helping your child find a quiet place to practice for a few minutes each night.  Encourage them to play for family members and friends, so they can get plenty of feedback.  Recorders are used to teach the basics of wind-instrument playing in preparation for woodwind and brass opportunities in the future.  Third graders will play during almost every music class for the rest of the school year, so please be sure your child is coming to school prepared.  Recorders should be cleaned regularly with soap and warm water or placed in the top rack of the dishwasher.

Solo and Ensemble festival is coming up soon and will be held at Franklin Middle School this year!  This is a fantastic opportunity for students to prepare a solo or duet for a judge and receive feedback on their playing.  The festival is open to all band and strings students.  Strings students will perform on Friday, April 26th and band students will perform on Saturday, April 27th.  Students have already received information about the festival and the deadline for returning forms and money is March 1st.

Next band performance:  March 8th, pep band for the basketball game.  Pep band has a lot of fun playing popular songs to help cheer on the team during the game.  All band students not playing basketball or cheerleading should plan to play in pep band!

Next strings performance:  April 30th, 7:00 p.m. at Franklin Middle School.  All strings students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be performing.  Students have been practicing hard for these events!

As always, if you have any questions about our music programs, please email Mrs. Davis (band), Ms. Geers (strings), Mrs. Hood (general music), or Mrs. Peterson (general music).
