Woodson's International Night

Woodson's For the Culture Club will be hosting the second annual International Night on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Woodson Auditorium.

This night is dedicated to celebrating the diverse backgrounds and culture of all Woodson students and family members. We encourage parents to become involved in the night by providing ethnic food for the potluck.  Other opportunities for participation include performing traditional dance or song, or wearing traditional attire in the fashion show.

We would love for the Cavalier community to be more involved in this event as it promotes cultural appreciation, acceptance and an opportunity to learn more about the world around us.

Finally, if any senior students are in need of volunteer hours, the Culture Club's sponsors Mrs. Adams and Ms. Black would provide service hours for the time spent in making decorations after school. If there are any questions feel free to contact us at wtwforthecultureclub@gmail.com.

Girls Basketball (12-10)

The Cavs concluded District play with two home games this week. On Monday, February 4, the Cavs blew out Robinson, 58-35. Freshman phenom Eunice Yoon tied a WTW record with eight three pointers on her way to an incredible 26-point performance.  Maggie McGuire scored 10, Natasha Pacheco 9, Abby Pesansky 8, Sarah Wilson 3, and Anna Wiggins 2. On Friday, February 8, hot-shooting Fairfax defeated the Cavs, 53-43. Eunice Yoon again led the Cavs with 18, hitting six more threes. Natasha Pacheco added 7, Maggie McGuire and Amelia Noca 5, and Abby Pesansky and Allie Maahs 3. Sarah Wilson and Sabrine Hussein chipped in with a free throw apiece. The District playoffs begin on Monday, February 11. The Cavs will get an immediate chance for a rematch as they face Fairfax on the road at 5:45 PM.  Anything is possible in the evenly-matched Patriot District.  Go Cavs!

Swim & Dive

Congratulations to the WTW Swim and Dive teams on their strong showings at Regions. The divers started things off right with seven top-10 performances, 5 heading to States, and the Women's Region Champion. Combining for 102 points, the divers set both teams up for success in the swimming portion. On 2/9, finals started off with a bang, with the Men's 200 medley relay winning in a school and Region record, automatic All American time, AND an all-time VA top 8 time. In the end, the women fought hard to repeat as Region Runners-Up, and the Men—2019 OCCOQUAN REGION CHAMPS—claimed either team's first swim/dive Region title since 1993. In all, there were 4 new team records set, 5 Region Records broken, and 5 individual/relay Region Champions. We also now have 5 individuals who have qualified for States for the first time, and have all 6 relays heading to States, as well as 15 total individuals competing at States. Way to go WTW Swim and Dive. We couldn't be prouder!
