Dear CES,
We had another short week due to weather! Fortunately, the weather appears to look better for next week. Remember that Monday is a school planning day, so students do not have school. Below are a few websites that students could access during these days off school to practice their math and reading skills.
We hope to see you today at the PTA Chuck E. Cheese Spirit Night from 3:00 - 9:00 PM. It is a great way to get the kids out for some fun on a snow day! I plan to be there right around 3:00.
The Super Bowl is on Sunday. Usually we would ask the students who they think will win and share the results with the students at the end of the day. Instead, we will use this google survey to determine who CES thinks will win the big game. Voting will close at noon on Sunday and the results will be shared prior to kickoff.

Wanted: Colonial Day Costumes!
The 4th grade is looking for Colonial Day costumes for Colonial Day on Friday, February 15th. Please consider lending or donating your Colonial Day costume to CES 4th graders. Send all costumes secured in a bag to Ms. Fowler in room 233 no later than February 13th. If you would like the costume returned to you after Colonial Day, please include a note with your child’s name, homeroom teacher, and a list of the items you are lending.
We thank you in advance for helping to make our Colonial Day a success!
Sincerely,
The 4th Grade Team
This past week our students focused on:
Supporting Other People When They Struggle
Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There is a Chinese saying that sums this up: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Talking through a problem is a common way to help a person who is going through a tough time. When thinking about how to help them through conversation, it can be useful to (a) validate, rather than dismissing, their feelings, (b) help them reappraise the situation, and (c) *carefully* point out logic/thinking errors that may block them from healing.
Café Host
- Do you love children?
- Do you love food?
- Do you love CES?
If you answered yes to these questions, then we have an amazing opportunity for you! We are in need of a second cafeteria host for the remainder of the school year. If you are interested please contact Mr. Blount asblount@fcps.edu.
