Curriculum Night and AP Test Opt Out

Curriculum Night January 23, 2019

As we enter scheduling season for the 2019-2020 school year, we invite parents to attend our Curriculum Night for Parents on Wednesday, January 23, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Staff will be available for parents interested in learning more about specific courses.  This is a night to learn broad information about curriculum, not a session to meet individual teachers to talk about your student's current coursework.

There will be brief presentations provided by each of the departments at structured intervals and they will repeat hourly.  The evening is designed to be a drop-in opportunity, so please join us as your interests and schedule permit.

6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 pm – Science & Technology (Cafeteria)

6:15, 7:15, and 8:15 pm – Math & Computer Science (Library)

6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 pm – English & Social Studies (Lecture Hall)

6:45, 7:45, and 8:45 pm – World Languages, Art, Music (Center downstairs hallway)

All information being shared is also available on the TJHSST department web pages.

Students will review the same information on January 11, 2019 at the Curriculum Fair for Students during 8th period.

Questions regarding the Curriculum Fair for Parents may be directed to the Director of Student Services, Brandon Kosatka at bpkosatka@fcps.edu.

AP Test Opt Out Forms

Please be aware that AP/IB opt-out forms were recently put in the mail for all students currently enrolled in an AP class. Details about the AP/IB test fees as well as a number of web-based resources and information about the process are available online at: https://www.fcps.edu/testfees.

The deadline to submit Advanced Placement (AP) Testing Opt Out forms to Student Services is February 1, 2019. Remember that FCPS will pay for the first six (6) AP tests in courses where a student is enrolled and takes the test. Fees for students enrolled in their seventh (7th) and higher AP course will be uploaded to individual MySchoolBucks accounts later in the spring.

If a student wishes to register for an AP test where he or she is not currently enrolled in the class, please contact Assessment Coach Leslie Barnhart to register for the exam. The cost for the test is $93 and can be paid via MySchoolBucks.

If you have any questions about registering for an AP exam where a student is not already enrolled in the course, please contact Ms. Barnhart at lcbarnhart@fcps.edu or contact your student’s school counselor.

VA Department of Education Student School Climate Survey Cancellation

On December 11, 2018, we sent a bulletin notifying families about a school climate survey to be administered to students later this month by the Virginia Department of Education. Please be aware the plan has changed and no FCPS students will be asked to participate in the survey.
