Students will be dismissed from school three hours early, at 12:30pm this Friday, December 14th for a school planning day. The Oak Hill main office will also close early that day at 1:00pm, so that office staff may attend a staff meeting. |
With winter break around the corner, we wanted to remind you of our attendance procedures for students who will be traveling. Please fill out the pre-arranged absence form and return it to the office no later than December 17th. Please note that FCPS has new regulations that pertain to travel outside of the country for a period of four consecutive weeks or more. Calling all snowflakes and snowmen! Teachers and students will celebrate the winter season with a spirit day on Thursday, December 20th. Please wear any clothing you may have that celebrates the winter season. We look forward to a fun way to build excitement for our Winter Break!
There are several important 6th grade events coming up.
- We would like to include 6th grade baby pictures in the yearbook and in an end of the year slide show. Please send in a .jpg of the picture to ohes6thevents@gmail.com. You may also send in a hard copy, but we would prefer the .jpg. Please include the child’s name and teacher.
- The sixth grade basketball game is March 8th. PTA requested volunteers at the beginning of the year, but we still need coaches for the girls team.
- We also need a coordinator for the end of the year after school pool party that traditionally happens at the Chantilly Highlands pool.

Oak Hill’s First Lego League team, the AREEVIA#7, competed in the tournament competition on November 17th and won a Judge's award. Congratulations to the team from 4th grade on their hard work and success this season!
We have an abundance of jackets at our Lost and Found. Please encourage your child to check if they are missing an item. All items that are not claimed by January 8 will be donated.
Do you know an FCPS graduate who is interested in being a teacher in FCPS? On Monday, December 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gatehouse Administration Center, FCPS is hosting the Back2Fairfax Teacher Seminar, an event for FCPS graduates who want to learn more about how to navigate the hiring process, employee resources, and tips to being a successful educator.
We invite all FCPS graduates who want to Say Yes to FCPS! to join us for an evening filled with networking opportunities, breakout sessions, and FCPS employment information.

We have been quite busy in Physical Education. The 6th graders have been working on creating safe, age-appropriate activities for students in our school. They are getting a behind the scenes experience of being a teacher and are designing and presenting games to their peers. We have enjoyed working with the students and guiding them along the way.
Grades K to 5th just finished their Gymnastics Unit in which students practiced and learned many skill sets (flexibility, balance, weight transfer, rolls). Students were also given the option to climb ropes during class.
We are currently working on our Dribbling unit with all grade levels.
Winter After School Activities
There are just a few spots left for some of the winter after school programs. Registration has been extended for one more week. PTA members get $25 off for every after school activity for which they register. Click this link to reserve a spot in your favorite activity.

ACSL organizes computer science contests and computer programming contests for elementary, junior, and senior high school students. Please register here if your child would like to take all 4 ACSL tests in Oak Hill ES test center. We have both elementary and classroom divisions open this year.

NOTE: You do not need to register if you are already registered for the ACSL coaching. Your child will take the test if he/she is already in the Wednesday classes.

Math Kangaroo is an international mathematical competition for students in grades 1 through 12. The competition consists of a single round. Any student that is currently enrolled in grades 1 through 12 is eligible to participate. Oak Hill is a private center and parents have to use the Invitation code VAHERND0003307@19MK to register.
