Our students are changing the future with an Hour of Code
Fairfax County Public Schools sent this bulletin at 11/26/2018 03:30 PM ESTDear Franconia Families,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works and only 35% of all high schools teach computer science.
That’s why our school is joining in the Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 3-9).
What is the Hour of Code?

A one-hour introduction to computer science The Hour of Code began as a one-hour coding challenge to give students a fun first introduction to computer science and has become a global learning event, celebration, and awareness event.
HourOfCode.com offers hundreds of one-hour activities in over 48 languages for kindergarten and up. Activities require no experience, include built-in video tutorials, and can be run on browsers, tablets, and smartphones -some don’t require any computer at all.
More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Franconia Elementary is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills.
