Hello, prospective NHS members.
The purpose of this email is to recap the NHS information session and to provide the pertinent details to those of you who could not make it to the meeting. This message is an excerpt of the information that is provided through the “TJHSST NHS Candidates - Fall 2018 NHS Candidates” Blackboard site. Enrollment details follow.
To begin, the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the nation’s leading organizations established to identify outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the four pillars of the Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Invitations to candidacy are reserved for juniors and seniors who carry a minimum weighted GPA of 3.500. All candidates will be required to certify this minimum requirement as part of the membership process, so, if you’re unsure, please check with your counselor before you start downloading and filling out forms.
Blackboard (Bb) is our singular communications portal: instructions and updates will be posted on the “Announcements” page and emails will be sent through this site. Candidates will need to self-enroll into our blackboard through the Community tab. Here are the instructions:
- Go to “Community” tab at the top of the page when you sign in, and type “TJHSST NHS Candidates - Fall 2018” in the Organization Search
- An organization ID with Mr. Culbertson’s name will pop up; click on the double arrows next to the ID and “Enroll.”
- Enter the Access Code “Challenger2018” and click “Submit.”
Information and all downloadable application materials will be available on this site. The very first place you should look is the READ ME tab. Here you will find a message providing detailed instructions and deadlines for the membership process. Information posted on this site supersedes any information you may have already received.
We expect membership decisions will be sent out in the first week of January 2019, with the Induction Ceremony scheduled for January 16, 2019 at 7 PM in the auditorium. Further details will follow, but we think it’s important for you to have this event in mind so you can save the date.
