2018-2019 CES Family Bulletin #12

Weekly Phots

Dear CES,

This week was packed with many wonderful activities here at CES. We started the week off with an amazing Veterans Day celebration. Our students were very respectful and grateful for all of the guest Veteran readers. We completed all of our Boosterthon Huddles and character lessons and are all ready for our FUN Run on Monday, November 26. Finally, we experienced our first snow event of the 2018/2019 school year and transitioned right back into our routines and procedure this morning. Throughout all of these activities and events our students have been demonstrating the character skills learned during our Positivity Project lessons. We are so proud of the strong character that our students exemplify each and every day! Parents/guardians please continue to talk with your children about the P2 character traits. Your support has proven to be overwhelmingly successful.

Next week we hope to see many of you at our Thanksgiving Luncheons. We are thankful for the collaboration and wonderful relationships we have created with each of you.

This past week our students focused on Gratitude.

WHAT DOES GRATITUDE MEAN?

Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship- strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”

Gratitude is sometimes resisted, especially in more self- sufficient and independent cultures, due to not wanting to experience a sense of indebtedness. However, gratitude is less about feeling indebted and more about being aware of the consideration, kindness, and generosity of others. It’s also important to note that gratitude is not about ignoring the negative aspects of life; it’s simply being aware of and thankful for what is good.
