Vet Day 2018

Oak Hill's Veterans Day celebration was a big success.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Thank you for the wonderful turnout yesterday at Dogfish! They were so generous to give Oak Hill 15% of their day’s profits. We were able to add just over $1600 for our Technology Fund to purchase replacements for our aging computers. We truly appreciate your support of our technology fundraisers! We hope to see many of you tomorrow night for our PTA's Family Dance Night and Kids Cookbook Show.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Inclement Weather Information

When bad weather or other emergency situations occur, it may be necessary for FCPS to cancel, delay, or close schools early. Parents and students should have a well-communicated plan in place in the event of these emergency situations. Children need to know where to go or what to do if a parent will not be home.

FCPS provides information about closings and delays in many ways including:

  • Posted to the FCPS Twitter and Facebook pages.
  • Posted to www.fcps.edu.
  • Email and text messages sent to parents (using the parent contact information listed in weCare@school).
  • Email sent to employees (using the employee's FCPS email address).
  • Email sent to News You Choose subscribers of Delayed Openings and School Closings.
  • Posted on FCPS cable Channel 21 (Cox Communications, Reston Comcast, and Verizon cable customers only).
  • Area radio and television stations.

Due to the speed of updating, the official @FCPSnews Twitter account (with blue checkmark) is generally the first and fastest mode of communication. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, other social media, and news stations. Please be aware, due to the large volume of emails sent there will likely be a lag between the FCPS Twitter alert and receipt of an email in your inbox. For more information about Weather Cancellation Procedures click here.

Oak Hill's First Lego League Team.

First Lego League Regional Tournament News

Oak Hill's First Lego League Team recently competed in the Regional Tournament and secured first place for their solution and research.  This year’s challenge was Intro into Space and the kids were tasked with finding a unique solution for a problem faced by astronauts.

The team decided to tackle space radiation and their solution was to use polyester fabric manufactured from recycled plastic bottles for the body suits - the liquid cooling ventilation garment that the astronauts wear underneath their space suits.  They shared their solution with NASA and received direct feedback from them that the kids were onto a great start with their proposed solution and it could be implemented with additional testing to make sure it withstands pressure.  Congratulations to the team and coaches!
