Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

It is beginning to feel like Fall!  With this cooler weather, please make sure your child comes to school dressed for an outside recess.  Please check the lost and found areas in our lobby and vestibule for those missing jackets or lunchboxes that did not make it home.  We would like to take a minute to say THANK YOU to our Veterans and active duty personnel by inviting them to a short musical program and light breakfast on Monday, November 12th in our café.  We would like thank Wegmans for their generous support of this event. Thank you for your continued support at Oak Hill through volunteering in the classrooms, café or through a PTA Committee.  We also thank you for your financial support by becoming PTA Members, purchasing Spirit Wear or books at our Book Fair, dining out at any of our Spirit Nights at local restaurants or making a donation for Oak Hill students.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Technology News

The FCPS Digital Citizenship

In FCPS it is our vision that all FCPS students will proactively approach their digital participation with empathy, ethics, and a sense of individual, social, and civic responsibility.  Our mission is that schools will develop and implement a shared responsibility program model for digital citizenship that includes students, parents, and school staff.  At home, here are some strategies that you can use to support your child to help them become an empathetic, ethical, and responsible digital citizen.

Model

Be a media mentor and set the standard. Kids are experts when it comes to sniffing out hypocrisy, and tweens are especially good at calling out their parents, so modeling the behavior you want to see is your first priority.

Monitor

Use limits, not lectures, and be up front about checking their media use. If you are setting solid standards but don't like what your child is doing, monitoring their media use is the next step: device-free zones and times.

Mediate

Talk about content while using technology together, share in the experience together, and promote safe practices. Children need our support to understand and interpret content they view, whether on TV, or online.  This strategy is especially helpful when they are very young and still eager for you to take part in what they’re doing.  If your child is using video games, participate - share in the experience they see and discuss safe practices for communicating in online gaming experiences and on social media.
