Woodburn News - November 2, 2018

Dear Woodburn Families,

We had a wonderful spirit week.  It was great to see students sporting wacky hair, matching outfits, Woodburn shirts, and more!  Pictures of the week can be found on our school Facebook and Twitter sites.

On Thursday we enjoyed a special presentation by cellist, Amit Peled.  Our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade strings students were able to participate in this exciting event.  It is because of our close partnership with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra that we were able to make this happen!

We are excited to welcome students back on Wednesday, November 7th, to start the second quarter.  We hope you enjoy the long weekend.

Sincerely,

Katy Richman and Ramona Gavin

All ages are welcome! Learn more here.

A Focus on Feelings

Feelings Target

Ms. Gannon, our school counselor, focused on helping students name their feelings throughout the first quarter.  All students have practiced using a Feelings Target to build self-regulation skills.  Feel free to ask your child to share more about this learning with you at home.

Support Woodburn - Vote for Michael

One of our very own wildcats, Michael Appelbaum in Ms. Kingsbury’s class, is a finalist in a WTOP Junior Reporter Contest.  He and his family submitted a video of Michael reporting about the Capitals.  Should he win the school will receive $1000 and he will get $500.  We are so proud of Michael and want to help him win! Should you be interested in supporting you can cast your vote using the link below.  You can vote once a day through November 9th.  http://ul.ink./CXB2-9BTW
