Dear Panther Families,
We had a wonderful time this week with the 5th grade DIG project, our Thanksgiving Luncheon and the Book Fair, even as Mother Nature tried to change our plans. It was so great to see our student and family engagement in learning. Thank you for all of the volunteers who helped with all three of these activities. We are very grateful for all of the Poplar Tree volunteers!!
It is hard to believe that next week is Thanksgiving already. Remember we have regular school hours on both Monday and Tuesday. All FCPS schools and offices are closed Wednesday-Friday.
Our Annual Giving Tree Collection also begins on Monday. All of the scarves, winter hats, gloves and socks are given to Our Neighbors Child. They are a non-profit, community based organization supporting children in need in western Fairfax County. Please consider donating the items listed above to help keep children warm in the winter months.
Please remember to use the form on our web-page, call the attendance line (703-633-7400) or email to let us know any changes to your child's school day (absence, coming in late or leaving early).
Have an awesome weekend,
Ms. Andujar and Ms. Walker

Positivity Project
This week our focus has been on the character strength of gratitude.
Individuals with the character strength of gratitude are those who have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and to return kindness. They might be described as: thankful, appreciative, gratified, pleased, satisfied and grateful.
To quote President John F. Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
If you are interested in learning more about the Positivity Project, please visit their website or the Poplar Tree website Positivity Project.
Homework Free Breaks
We wanted to share that all FCPS high school principals have agreed to have “homework free breaks” during major FCPS student holidays. At Poplar Tree we are also setting "homework free breaks."
Teachers are asked to not assign homework over Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break and not have any projects due or any assessments on the first two days after the holiday.
Everyone has worked hard and needs some time to relax and rejuvenate.
Advanced Academics Important Deadline
Level IV Referral Packets for FCPS students grades 2-7 are due to the local school by January 10, 2019 at 4:00 PM.
Please note that there are NO exceptions to the deadline and you should not wait for ability test scores because of the tight timeline.
Additional information can be found on the Advanced Academic Programs website under Full-Time Level IV Services and Screening Procedures.
If you have any questions, please contact Kim Keleher, AART, at KJKeleher@fcps.edu.
