Please Look for the Federal Impact Aid Survey in Backpacks Today

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 26. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Salad Bar is Coming to SVES!

We are excited to announce that Sunrise Valley is going to the next level of providing our students and staff with a healthier lunch!

Beginning on October 24th, we will be implementing the “Real Food for Kids” Salad Bar.

Please review the October and November  salad bar lunch menu describing the vegetables, fruits, protein and grains available on the salad bar, as well as the students’ hot entrée choice. All students will select their fruits and vegetables for lunch from the salad bar, and then they may complete their lunch by choosing either the salad bar protein and grains or the hot entrée listed on the menu for that day. Students will “practice” salad bar etiquette and new procedures for the lunch line before the salad bar opens. We are excited that our students will have so many fresh fruits and vegetables to choose from each day and look forward to joining many other FCPS schools that have had the opportunity to implement the salad bar successfully this school year!

Digital Citizenship Week : October 15th – 19th!

This year’s focus is on Building a Culture of Shared Responsibility. Each day during the week, schools and parents/caregivers can take simple steps to get in sync and partner together to educate and support students with digital life.

You’ll find materials for home during Digital Citizenship week on the SVES website. Monday through Wednesday offers complementary activities and conversations that can begin at school and extend into the home. On Thursday and Friday, instructional staff and parents are provided the same simple strategies that can be used at home and at school to support students. A common message from trusted adults has a big impact on kids.

We hope Digital Citizenship Week will spark some educationally valuable conversations that can be promoted and supported all year long, by both parents and teaching staff.
