Student Lunch Information
Fairfax County Public Schools
does not encourage parents to bring food from fast food restaurants into school
cafeterias due to unknown sanitation policies at these fast food restaurants,
unknown ingredients (i.e. common allergens), and their likely non-compliance
with competitive food and beverage guidelines. Breakfast and lunch food sold by
FCPS Food and Nutrition and Services meets USDA standards for school meals.
Food sold to students during the school day that is not part of the lunch or
breakfast programs must meet Smart Snacks standards, per the 2010 Healthy
Hunger-Free Kids Act and FCPS Wellness Policies. Many fast food items, such as
soda and candy, are likely too high in calories, sugar, sodium and/or fat to
meet Smart Snacks guidelines. When parents bring in a forgotten lunch, we suggest that they bring a nutritious
lunch from home.
SCREENAGERS
Edison HS will be hosting a screening of the movie SCREENAGERS, a documentary that explores the impact of screen technology on kids and offers solutions that work. The film probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games, and academics.
This screening is open to the FCPS community! The movie is appropriate for adults of kids all ages and kids 10 years old and older. Discover ways to promote healthy technology use for children both in school and at home.

Did you Know?
- Regular school attendance in elementary school improves the chances that your child will read on grade level.
- Chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement, even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
- Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
- Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with peer conflicts or facing some other potentially serious difficulty, and help is available.
