Dear CES,
It is hard to believe that on Monday it will already be October!
One of our main focuses here at CES is outdoor learning. This week some of our students had wonderful opportunities to participate in outdoor learning experiences. Students on the Green Team in 4th and 5th grade traveled to Washington D.C. to board a boat. While on the boat, the students learned about the impact each of us has on the Potomac River. Our 6th grade students traveled to Middleburg, VA to Camp High Roads. During their trip, they went on hikes, learned survival skills, did art with nature, and challenged themselves on the high ropes course.
Our goal is to get all students outdoors and learning with nature. If you have any suggestions for Family Outdoor Field Trips please share them with us. We would love to engage our community in outdoor learning experiences.

Student Attendance
Regular attendance is
essential for students to form positive peer and adult relationships and to
learn. In fact, when students miss significant amounts of instructional time,
they tend to lose momentum academically. Of course, there are times that
students may have health or other concerns that may prevent them from being
present.
Parents are invited to partner with schools, so that together, we
can identify ways to help children stay positive and engaged in learning. FCPS’
goal is to help each child feel connected and goal-directed, so that they have
the best possible outcomes in school this year.
More information about attendance is available online.
This week our students focused on the trait of TEAMWORK. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Citizenship is a willingness to work towards the common good as opposed to one’s own self-interest. Those with strengths in teamwork and citizenship often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources to further group goals and help move toward the greater good.
Next week our students will focus on the character trait of OPEN-MINDEDNESS. Please continue to have conversations at home on the weekly character traits covered at school.
