Did You Know?
 There is a time capsule at WSES. This capsule
was locked into place in 2015 outside of Mr. Rice’s office and will not be
opened until 2065. Our sixth graders will be about 58 years old by then!

Picture
Day This upcoming Thursday, September 27, is our
Fall Picture Day. Please be sure to turn in your picture orders as early as
possible. Orders cannot be accepted by the school after the 27th, but parents
can still place online orders with Lifetouch on September 28 and 29.
First Spirit
Day on September 28 Online registration for the West Springfield
Pyramid Challenge will be closing up on Sunday, September 30, so to celebrate,
be sure to wear your WSES blue or former Pyramid Challenge shirt on Friday, September 28. Go Mighty Mustangs!
Pyramid
Challenge Registration Open Online registration for the West Springfield Pyramid Challenge race opened on September 7
and will be open through October 1. This
FREE race will take place at
Washington Irving Middle School on October 13 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.. The local schools compete to see who will
have the highest percentage of participants. Let's bring that trophy to WSES!!

1 to guarantee your Pyramid Challenge shirt.

Veteran’s Day Performance We are beginning to
prepare for our Veteran’s Day Performance that will be held at 9:30 a.m on
November 12. We need volunteers to serve on our military panel who have served
or are currently serving in one of the armed forces. Please email our school
counselor, Ms. Brooke Menard, if you are available to help at
bnmenard@fcps.edu.

Fall
Garden Day Fall is a great time to plant, so on Saturday,
September 22, Green Spring Gardens is hosting
numerous local plant and garden craft vendors to satisfy your gardening needs
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. A silent auction, bake sale, live music, food and kids’
activity tent add to the festivities. Come and support one of Virginia’s most
innovative public gardens. Admission is free.
Hispanic
Heritage Month: Cri-Cri the Mexican Singing Cricket Meet a new friend on September 22. Cri-Cri,
the iconic Mexican radio character, has been popular all over Latin America
since the 1930s. Joined by a zany announcer and two gifted musicians, Cri-Cri
brings students back to the age of radio in this interactive program. Go dance,
play, and sing along to classic songs in Spanish and English. Perfect for ages
3-8 and just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month. Click here for more information.
Technology
Family Day On Saturday, September 22, head over to the American Art Museum from 11:30 a.m.
to 3 p.m. to discover how technology and art intersect and influence our lives.
Explore the Trevor Paglen: Sites Unseen
exhibition and then hop out to the courtyard to learn binary code to create
jewelry, see how game developers use pixels to create pictures, and hear music
that turns electronic sounds into fun beats.
