Advanced Academics Information Session

A parent information session about Advanced Academics will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 9:00 AM at Kings Glen. All Kings Glen parents are invited to come learn about the FCPS Advanced Academics program, how the screening process works and what the services looks like at Kings Glen. Please contact Mrs. Agner (CAAgner@fcps.edu) if you have any questions.

Important Screening Dates:

  • October 11, 2018 for students new to FCPS
  • January 10, 2019 for students not new to FCPS this school year

Due to the volume of files screened centrally for Level IV services, deadlines are strictly held. A referral form may be turned in from the first day of school until the published deadline. Additional Information on Advanced Academics can be found here.

Picture Day is October 19th

Kings Glen Picture Day is Friday, October 19. If you would like to volunteer to help with pictures (half-day or full-day), please contact KGNotes@fcps.edu or call the office at 703-239-4000. Lifetouch Photography will be providing picture vouchers for volunteers.

September Is Attendance Awareness Month

Welcome back to school! September is Attendance Awareness Month. Regular attendance is essential for students to form positive peer and adult relationships and to learn. In fact, when students miss significant amounts of instructional time, they tend to lose momentum academically. Of course, there are times that students may have health or other concerns that may prevent them from being present. More information about attendance

At Kings Glen, attendance can be reported by either calling our Attendance Line at 703-239-4040, or by emailing KGNotes@fcps.edu.

Mental Health and Wellness Conference

Registration is now open for the fifth annual FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference that, for the first time, will also include an Our Minds Matter Teen Summit for middle and high school students, sponsored by the Josh Anderson Foundation.  The conference will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fairfax High School on Saturday, September 29, 2018.  Dr. Scott Brabrand, FCPS Superintendent, will open the conference, and Dr. Amy Przeworski, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, will present the keynote message:  Using Stress to Your Advantage in Achieving Academic Success and Emotional Well Being.  Participants in this conference, which is free to staff, parents, and community members, will be able to choose from 35 breakout options (many offered more than once).  Additionally, there will be more than 50 resource tables available, representing public and private agencies providing wellness-related services within our schools and in our community.

KP/KG PTA News

Fun Run

The KPKG PTA kicked off our biggest fundraiser of the year this week with an exciting Pep Rally to kick off our 9-day Mind Spark Mystery Lab themed Fun Run! Please support the PTA – and our schools – by asking friends and family to pledge your child at FUNRUN.COM. Pledges can be per lap or a flat amount, and students generally complete 30- 35 laps. Funds raised through the Fun Run will go towards classroom materials, new technology, field trips, teacher grants and many other items that benefit our students. View flier for more information.

KPKG Student Directory Opt Out

Every year the Kings Park/Kings Glen PTA produces a student directory that is made available to all PTA members as a benefit of membership. The directory will include the student's name, grade, teacher, parent/guardian name, and parent/guardian email. Due to changes in Virginia state law, the directory will not include home address or phone number. If you do not want your student's information to be included in the PTA directory, please complete the PTA Directory Opt-Out Form by October 5, 2018. Please note that individuals that have submitted a universal opt-out to FCPS are not included in the directory and do not need to respond.

Join the PTA

Our students and school benefits from the strong partnership with the KP/KG PTA and we hope you will strongly consider joining the KP/KG PTA.  Visit www.kpkgpta.org/join for more information.
