Paw Print week of September 10-14, 2018

Principal's Message

Dear Panther Families,
We had another amazing week at Poplar Tree! It was great to see so many of our families at our first Back to School Night on Tuesday. This week, students were engaged, learning, and having fun all throughout the building. We continued to practice safety drills including our weekly fire evacuation drills. We also had our first lockdown drill this week.

Please follow PTES and many of our teachers on Twitter to see the Amazing Things Happening Here at Poplar Tree.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Andujar and Ms. Walker

Positivity Project

Poplar Tree has become a Partner School with the Positivity Project for the 2018-19 schoolyear. We are so excited to join many other FCPS partner schools, including Rocky Run Middle School and Chantilly High School.

The mission of The Positivity Project is to empower students to build strong relationships -- by understanding, appreciating, and living out the 24-character strengths in us all. Please ask your students about the Other People Matter Mindset next week! Click here for a link to a video to learn more.

Photo ID

Visitor Management System

Poplar Tree continues to use the electronic visitor management system in our main office this year in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school day.  Everyone who comes into the building is required to sign in on the new system.

Every time you enter the building, you will need a government issued photo identification  in order to sign into the new system.  If you do not have a driver's license, passport, military ID or any other government issued photo ID you will not be able to sign in and enter the building.

 Back-to-School Nights

Monday, Sep. 17, 6:00-7:30 pm for grades 3-6

Back-to-School Night provides parents an opportunity to meet teachers, learn about classroom routines and the grade level curriculum. This event is for Parents Only. Because time is very limited, Back-to-School Night is not an appropriate time to discuss an individual student’s progress.

Back-to-School-Night Schedule:

6:00-6:25 PM: Optional Activities for Interested Parents in the café

  • Meet & Greet Administrators
  • Meet & Greet Counselors
  • PTA Information
  • ESOL Program
  • SIS Parent Account/FCPS Parent Portal (24/7)
  • FCPSOn

6:30-6:55 and 7:00-7:25 PM: Classroom Visits

Teachers will discuss classroom expectations and important information. The teachers will have two identical sessions. The duplicate sessions are for parents who have students in two different grade levels or classrooms. You only need to attend one of the sessions for each class.

Parent meeting

Please join our Advanced Academics Resource teacher, Kim Keleher, for coffee and information on Thursday, September 20 at 9:00 AM in the Language Arts room. This will be an informational meeting for all families K-6 regarding the Advanced Academics Program. At this meeting, you will learn about the programs and services we offer here at Poplar Tree, as well as what services the county offers. We will also discuss the Level IV referral process, for students in grades 2-6, and testing and identification timelines.  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Keleher at kjkeleher@fcps.edu.

Early Dismissal Day

On Wednesday, September 19th, students will be released 3 hours early, at 12:25 p.m. There will be four additional 3-hour early dismissal days this school year. These days are planned to provide time for staff development.

Please make transportation and child care plans now for September 19th.

The lunch schedule on the early dismissal days will be modified to allow all students to have lunch.
