Fairfax County Public Schools sent this bulletin at 09/07/2018 12:00 PM EDT
Visitor Management SystemPoplar Tree continues to use the electronic visitor management system in our main office this year in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school day. Everyone who comes into the building is required to sign in on the new system.Every time you enter the building, you will need a government issued photo identification in order to sign into the new system. If you do not have a driver's license, passport, military ID or any other government issued photo ID you will not be able to sign in and enter the building.Back-to-School NightsMonday, Sep. 17, 6:00-7:30 pm for grades 3-6Back-to-School Night provides parents an opportunity to meet teachers, learn about classroom routines and the grade level curriculum. This event is for Parents Only. Because time is very limited, Back-to-School Night is not an appropriate time to discuss an individual student’s progress. Back-to-School-Night Schedule:6:00-6:25 PM: Optional Activities for Interested Parents in the café
6:30-6:55 and 7:00-7:25 PM: Classroom Visits Teachers will discuss classroom expectations and important information. The teachers will have two identical sessions. The duplicate sessions are for parents who have students in two different grade levels or classrooms. You only need to attend one of the sessions for each class.
Please join our Advanced Academics Resource teacher, Kim Keleher, for coffee and information on Thursday, September 20 at 9:00 AM in the Language Arts room. This will be an informational meeting for all families K-6 regarding the Advanced Academics Program. At this meeting, you will learn about the programs and services we offer here at Poplar Tree, as well as what services the county offers. We will also discuss the Level IV referral process, for students in grades 2-6, and testing and identification timelines. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Keleher at kjkeleher@fcps.edu. Early Dismissal DayOn Wednesday, September 19th, students will be released 3 hours early, at 12:25 p.m. There will be four additional 3-hour early dismissal days this school year. These days are planned to provide time for staff development. Please make transportation and child care plans now for September 19th. The lunch schedule on the early dismissal days will be modified to allow all students to have lunch.
