The Wolftrap Connection: Week of September 4

Principal's Message

Principal Theresa Khuluki

Back to School Night

Please join us on Wednesday, September 5! This important parent-only event is the time to learn curriculum topics for the year, what the teacher expects from your child, how the teacher will support your child and how you can best contact your child’s teacher.

New this year, the specialists (art, music, PE, Chinese, library, etc.) will be available in the cafeteria from 5:30-6:00 PM for a meet and greet. Please stop by to say hello or ask any questions you may have about specials!

Back to School Night officially begins at 6:00 PM so please be in your designated location (see chart below) to hear important information from Wolftrap Administration and the PTA.

Each teacher/grade level will then present twice in order to allow parents with more than one child to attend both sessions.

Please be kind to our neighbors and do not block driveways. We look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night and our 50th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki

Principal

Message from the PTA

Greetings Wolftrap Families!

We hope everyone is settling back into the school routine and that your new school year is off to a great start.  In our second week of school we wanted to focus your attention on a few upcoming events (there are MANY!).

First-  As Mrs. Khuluki noted in her message, Back to School Night is this Wednesday September 5th at 6pm.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about your child’s/children’s classroom, classroom volunteer opportunities and the academic schedule for the year.

Second-  Please join us for an extra special celebration of Wolftrap’s 50th anniversary at this year’s Wolftrap Under the Stars this FRIDAY, September 7th 6-8pm. We have many things planned to make this a memorable event including inflatables, obstacle courses, a photo booth, food trucks, a DJ and a chance to view the items discovered in the Wolftrap time capsule! – All weather permitting of course. We still need volunteers to help with set up, clean up and monitoring activities during the event.  This is a good opportunity for middle or high school students to help out and get in some volunteer hours.  Sign up here if interested.

Finally-  Don’t forget- the first PTA meeting of the year is next Friday, September 14 at 8:45am in the Teacher’s lounge.  This will be directly followed by our annual Welcome Coffee.  We hope to see you there.

Thanks and as always please reach out if you have any questions.

Your PTA Board,

Sarah Helou, President (president@wolftrappta.org)

Jessica Jue, President-elect (president-elect@wolftrappta.org)

In case you missed it-the Vienna Connection newspaper had a photographer outside Wolftrap on the 1st day of school.  Kids from Wolftrap made the front page and were featured on page 6 of the newspaper!  Check it out here.

Walking Wednesdays

Walking Wednesday Table Minders

There was a huge turnout for the first Walking Wednesday of the school year, lets keep it up!  WWs will continue on a weekly basis until late fall.  After that WWs will be held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month.

For families new to Wolftrap, Walking Wednesday is a program designed to encourage more students (and parents) to leave the car at home and walk or bike to school.  We have a table set up outside Door 2 where walkers and bikers check in for their grade level and each child receives a small reward token to collect.  At the end of the month, the grade with the highest percentage of walker/bikers is awarded the coveted "Golden Sneaker".  As an added bonus to Walking Wednesday, Cafe Amouri kindly donates coffee for parents to enjoy after dropping their kids off at school.

Pictured are Ashley Sinclair (3rd) and Kaitlin Arnold (4th) staffing the Walking Wednesday sign in table.

Talisman No Drop Zone

 Important Safety Note:

Please do NOT drop off/pick up students along the school side of Talisman between Beulah and St. Roman.  For the safety of our Wolftrap students, please use the designated kiss and ride or park in permissible areas.

Volunteers Needed

All of the many programs and activities run by the PTA can’t take place without the support of dozens of volunteers throughout the school year. Currently we have many opportunities to get involved- specifically our Faculty Volleyball Game, Grace Art, as well as our Communications and Webmaster teams need more volunteers.  The Faculty Volleyball Game is in need of a chairperson while the Communications and Webmaster teams need team members to assist in managing our newsletter, Facebook, and web page maintenance. We also could still use more help for the Audit Committee, Talent Show, Reflections, 5K & Fun Run and many others-

See our flyer here for more info on these positions.   Contact Sarah Helou at president@wolftrappta.org or Jean Lee at volunteer@wolftrappta.org with any questions, concerns, or to sign up for a particular role.
