BYOD At Rachel Carson MS

Rachel Carson MS encourages students to bring their own laptops and tablets to school (BYOD) for use during the instructional day. Whether writing a paper, solving math problems, researching a topic, or collaborating with fellow students, portable technology can help your child better complete his or her school work and assist them in developing skills that will prepare them for their future. See more information on FCPS and BYOD here. Although Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) does not require students to purchase their own devices, if you are considering purchasing a device that your child could use during the school day or at home, please review the specifications listed here. Also, FCPS has partnered with Dell, HP, and Microsoft to provide discounted devices and software for all students in FCPS. You can access more information at our Technology@Home site.

Finance Park Field Trips

Eighth grade students will soon be going to Finance Park.  This program, sponsored by Junior Achievement, offers students opportunities to participate in practical budget simulations and allows them to apply their knowledge of financial literacy learned through their math and civics classes.  Many parent volunteers are needed to ensure that we can fully participate in all aspects of the day.  Volunteers may receive more information and sign up at this link:

Applications for Free and Reduced Price Meals

Dear RCMS Families,

The FCPS homepage now includes information about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals online application.  The Hot Topics section, located towards the middle of the main webpage, now has a blue box for “Apply Online for Free and Reduced-Price Meals”, where details about the process and the link to start the application is posted.

Electronic meal applications are quick, easy, and available in the following languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, French, and Vietnamese.

Both the online application and paper application now include a designated section with the consent to share information for other programs. This update allows parents and guardians to complete the free and reduced-price meal application and the consent to share information in the same document.

Please contact Maria Escobar, Food Services Kitchen Manager, at MEscobar1@fcps.edu or Solangie McPherson, Parent Liaison, at SVMcPherson@fcps.edu if you need assistance with completing the application.  Please email Courtney Krsmanovic, School Social Worker, at CNKrsmanovic@fcps.edu for emergency food resources and assistance.
