2018-2019 CES Family Bulletin #1

Welcome Back

Welcome Back CES,

We hope that everyone had a wonderful summer full of fun and family time! It was great to see all of the smiling faces of students and families back at CES.

Our theme this year is #OurCES, with a focus on collaborating, engaging, and building positive relationships with students, staff, and community. To help achieve this we would like to increase our attendance at family/school events. In an effort to support this we will be sending reminders out through an app called Remind (also available on computers). If you would like to receive updates about events at CES please use the following link to signup. These reminders will be coming from Mr. Douds.

We often get questions regarding the best way parents can support their students at the beginning of the school year. Below are a few tips that might be helpful.

  • Communicate with your child's teacher.
  • Check school/teacher websites, Facebook, Twitter, and other school news outlets.
  • Have your child read every night.
  • Communicate early with the office if you child will be absent or be leaving school early.
  • Please do not talk negatively about a CES staff member in front of your child(ren).
  • Encourage your student to be active and engage in conversation and communication about their day with others.
  • When visiting or volunteering at school or picking up your student, you must always bring your photo identification.

We are starting a new Birthday Celebration Initiative here at CES. The flyer below will be distributed to your students. Please talk with them and determine how they would like to celebrate their birthday at school. We appreciate your support with this initiative.

We will continue our journey with the Positivity Project this year at CES! The mission of The Positivity Project is to empower students to build strong relationships -- by understanding, appreciating, and living out the 24 character strengths in us all. Please ask your students about the Other People Matter Mindset next week! Click here for a link to a video to learn more.

Bus Delay Notification System

Stay up-to-date on school bus arrivals with FCPS' bus delay notification system. This system provides parents with timely notification of late bus route information. Access it directly online. Morning bus route information will be available until noon. The afternoon bus route information will be available from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

E-Notify (BlackboardConnect) email messages will also be sent to announce bus delays.

Need assistance or have questions? Visit the FCPS Transportation page for more information.

PTA Corner

Welcome Back Parents! The PTA is excited to start the year. Please mark your calendars for the Welcome Back Picnic on Friday, September 7th from 5:30-8:30. Come eat, socialize, jump in the moon bounce, and dunk a CES staff member at the dunk tank. Also, our first PTA Meeting is on Thursday, October 11th at 7:00 pm. This year we will be providing child care and light refreshments during the meetings.

Have you joined the PTA yet? If not, you can do so by returning the membership form from the first day packet, sign up at the picnic, or complete the online form on our website. https://centrevillepta.wordpress.com/i-want-to-join/ Your membership helps fund our community building events and supports your children in their classrooms throughout the year. Becoming a member does not require you to attend meetings or volunteer, though we LOVE our volunteers and would love to have you as part of our team! Also, if you have not liked our page on Facebook (fb.me/CentrevillePTA1) or started following us on Twitter (@CentrevillePTA1), please take a moment to do so. We will have polls, information, and even an occasional giveaway on there.

Last, our spirit wear sale is going on NOW! Visit https://orderschoolstuff.com/centrevillees18/ BEFORE September 21st to order yours. We will not accept late orders and will have limited availability after this date. All orders will be delivered to your child's classroom in early October. The password for entering our store is OurCES.

Don't forget to stop by and say hi to us on September 7th.
