Chesterbrook 1st Day

Our first day was smooth and productive, setting up students for a successful school year.  As we get started there are a few beginning of the year items to note as you talk about the day with your students.  We hope your child had a great first day of school.

Recess

This year all students will have 30 minutes of recess which is broken into a 15 minute blocks twice per day.  During the first week of school teachers will be playing group games with students while students are instructed about recess games and rules regarding our playground structures so all students enjoy  recess safely. This structured class playtime will allow our new students time to get to know classmates, allow our teachers to watch for kind interactions and inclusion of students and provide time for our students to understand aspects of playground safety.  Next week, students will begin open free play where they can use the swings, playground equipment and choose other group games.

Instruction for Core Subjects

The first two weeks of school, students will be spending times in their homerooms beginning the basics of our curriculum as well as building connections within their classroom and routines.  During this time teachers will assist students accessing their online FCPS, blackboard, and google accounts (as needed per grade level).  Additionally, students will take baseline beginning of the year assessments.  During our third week of school, students in 2nd - 6th grades will begin to switch for some core classes. This varies by grade level.  Information from the previous and current year is utilized to meet the needs of your student.

Transportation Safety to School

Thank you for encouraging your kids to ride the school bus.  We have a very small Kiss N Ride loop.  If you are bringing students through Kiss N Ride we ask for your patience.  Please do not drop students off on Kirby Road or allow your child to walk through the parking lot by themselves.  Reminder that we are not a walking school and there is no crossing guard, so if you are choosing to walk with your child, please use caution. FCPS staff are not allowed to direct traffic, but will happily help your child exit their buses and our Kiss N Ride loop.
