During FCPS' 2018 Leadership Conference, Superintendent Brabrand discussed FCPS' Strategic Focus for the next two school years. Find out more about the school division's goals.
Being thoughtful about what you share on your
professional or personal social media accounts is critical. Making smart
choices can prevent mishaps that could negatively impact you and the
school division. That's where FCPS' Social Media Guidance for Staff comes in. It focuses on social media use
for non-instructional purposes, such as communicating with parents and
stakeholders, or connecting with family and friends. So, before you tweet or
post, please review our social
media guidance and encourage your colleagues to do the
same. Questions? Contact the Office of Communication and Community
Relations at ccrsocial@fcps.edu.
In late May, we introduced you to Armando Peri, FCPS' new family and student ombudsman. Armando offers
confidential and informal help to students and families to resolve concerns,
problems, complaints, and other student-related issues. We recently caught up with Armando to find out more about his new role. See how he describes it.
Photo of the Week
Who says students should be the only ones to have a first-day-of-school photo? Not the Marasti siblings! Lauren and her brother, Michael, teach at Belle View ES. Before school started this morning, Lauren tweeted the adorable photo above with the caption, "Even teachers take first day pictures for their mothers! #Siblings #FirstDayFairfax." These two may have won the internet today! We wish Lauren, Michael, and the rest of FCPS' school-based staff an awesome school year!

#OurFCPS Faces: Camille Bartus
As a wellness specialist in the Office of Benefit Services, Camille Bartus is
just what the doctor ordered! Camille, who is entering her 13th year at FCPS, manages FCPS' Employee Wellness programs and initiatives. She credits
her “incredibly talented and fun” team for helping her carry out the programs. Camille
says, “Together, we create, coordinate, communicate, and administer initiatives
aimed at bringing an awareness of healthy choices to employees.” Initiatives include
flu immunizations, a health assessment incentive program, virtual fitness
challenges, a Fitness on the Move program, and administration of the Lactation
Support Toolkit.
Camille travels all
over the county meeting with employees from every part of FCPS to provide
customized wellness programs for their groups such as health events, workshops,
webinars, and health exhibits. She also
works closely with her colleagues and FCPS health vendors to analyze data
and develop a strategic focus for the wellness programs and communications. Since
Employee Wellness is part of the Caring Culture goal in FCPS’ Strategic Focus, Camille
feels lucky to partner with employee wellness liaisons at all of the
schools to provide resources they can use to launch wellness initiatives for
their staff members.
Camille says the best
part of her job is that, “It is very fast paced, never boring, and gives me a
chance to be creative." Camille’s
supervisor, De Hawley Brown, adds, “The OBS team values her expertise and
insights greatly, and she amazes us daily in her unfailing commitment to the
cause of wellness as well as her true dedication to the employees and broader
Fairfax Community.” In her free time,
Camille enjoys nature, hiking, kayaking, and birdwatching. She also loves the
arts and going to museums, plays, and music venues. Thanks for helping us be at our best, Camille!

Correction
Last week's Employee News asked, "Did you
know that full-time FCPS employees are automatically enrolled in The
Educational Employees' Supplementary Retirement System of Fairfax County
(ERFC)?" To clarify, only full-time, monthly paid instructional,
administrative, and educational support employees are automatically enrolled
in ERFC. Part-time educational, administrative, and monthly paid support employees
as well as full-time bus drivers, custodians, food service workers, and
maintenance workers are automatically enrolled in The Fairfax County Employees’ Retirement System (FCERS). We apologize
for the error.
