Announcements from Herndon Middle School - 8-27-18

2018-19 Safety Drills

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Herndon Middle School.  Because of this, we routinely practice safety drills throughout the year to ensure our students and staff are aware of the procedures during an emergency situation.

On Wednesday August 29th, we will practice our first fire drill of the year.  We will have one fire drill a week for the first twenty days of school and then one fire drill a month during the rest of the school year.

On Friday September 7th, we will be practicing a lock-down drill.  FCPS requires that we practice four of these drills throughout the year, two of them being in the first twenty days of school.  A bus evacuation drill will be held in the beginning of October.  A tornado drill will be held during the month of March.  Take this opportunity to speak with your child regarding the need to take ALL drills seriously and the importance of staying calm in an emergency situation.  Students will be instructed by staff members as to what the proper procedures are during each type of drill.  Should you have questions about any of these drills, please contact the HMS Administrative Team.

  • All student drop off must occur at the designated Kiss & Ride area located in the back of the building. Students should remain in the vehicle until you approach the designated drop-off area.
  • Students should NOT be dropped off in the front of the building on Locust Street or in the side parking lot.
  • We encourage you to arrive a few minutes early. High congestion time is typically 7:15-7:30.
  • When exiting the HMS campus and re-entering Locust Street traffic during morning drop off, right turns only may be made between 7am-8am.

Herndon Middle School is getting a face lift!

Grace Landscaping has agreed to help clean up the front of the school by helping with the front gardens and areas.

Gracie Landscaping is a local and family owned landscape maintenance company.  Owners, Joshua and Kelli Jordan, are the parents of Andrew (a freshman at Herndon High), Brady (a 7th grader at Herndon Middle), and Katherine (a 5th grader at Armstrong Elementary).

Herndon MS appreciates their donation and support.  They also will work with the school and community to organize a school cleanup day in September. Stay tuned for an online sign up for students and parents to pitch in and finish the job through weeding, raking, and planting!  We look forward to this community endeavor!
