Sandburg Families,

We are excited to begin the 2018-19 school year! Here are a few important announcements for the first week of school.

First Week of School:

Students will go to their ODD-numbered classes on the first day of school, beginning with 1st period, on August 28th . Students will receive their lunch schedule on the first and second days of school. Some students may eat at a different time on an ODD or EVEN day. Teachers will escort students to lunch for the first week, so students can get acclimated to the schedule. Please reference a snapshot of the first week’s schedule above. (Note - H = Homeroom)

Backpacks and Locker Usage:

Students ARE allowed to carry backpacks to ALL classes, including Lunch and PE,  throughout the day. Students can visit their lockers during any class change, however, most students find it helpful to simply carry their materials in their backpacks.  

Student Planners:

All students will receive a student planner on the first day of school. The planner has a copy of the bell schedule and the ODD/EVEN (BLUE/WHITE) calendar for the entire school year.

Student Schedules

Thank you for taking time out to join us at the Panther Power House.  If you were unable to attend, you can see your child’s schedule on your Parent SIS Account.  If you have not activated your Parent SIS Account, please contact Mary Vandever by email at MAVandever@fcps.edu for your activation key.

We are still working on correcting students' schedules.  Therefore, the schedule that was picked up may change.  We will give every student a new schedule, with the homeroom class on it, on the first day of school.  Also, after the first day of school, we tend to have students that have moved and did not notify us.  Therefore, we will need to balance out our classes.  If your child’s schedule changes after the first day of school, we will give your child a new schedule.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application

All families should have received an application from the Food and Nutrition Office.  There is a faster way to process these applications by applying online.  Refer to the flyer below.

Your Sandburg Middle School PTA welcomes you to a new school year!

 JOIN THE PTA!
This year you can join our PTA online. Follow these easy steps (if you have questions, please email Beth Hamilton at bethhamilton@cox.net):

 1.     Click on this link or copy and paste it into your browser (https://member.pta.org/Pilot-Home/Individual-Join).  You are now at the National PTA site.

2.     Create an account – this process is quick and requires no more information that you would provide if you join with a paper form.

3.     Sign in with your account and click on Join my Local PTA.  There are 3 drop down menus – Click Virginia PTA for state, Carl Sandburg Middle School for local PTA and Family2 for membership type.

4.     Click "check out" and your contact information will be confirmed; click “join” at the bottom left and you will be prompted to pay via PayPal or a credit card.

 

By joining the PTA, your family can become part of an organization that works hard for our children on a local, state and national level.   At Carl Sandburg, the PTA plays a vital role in the school community.  In addition to organizing events and providing necessary volunteers, the PTA provides much needed funding for items including classroom computers, printers and technology, field trip expenses, after school programs, teacher start-up funds, professional development and much more!
