Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am thrilled to welcome our students and families to the
2018-19 school year. Our Sandburg Panther family continues to grow and I am so
proud to serve this great school community as principal. We are poised to have an
outstanding year of learning and fun. Let’s continue to work together to
provide the best educational opportunities for our young Panthers, while
considering their academic, social, and emotional needs. Thank you all for trusting
us with your child’s education. I look forward to continuing our home-school
partnership.

Panther Power House
Would you like a chance to help your child find his/her way
to around the building and help them open his/her
locker before the first day of school? Come to Carl Sandburg’s Panther Power
House on August 22 from 8AM-1PM or August 23 from 9AM-7PM. You will be
able to pick up your child’s schedule, explore the building, and open their
locker. If you are unable to attend, you can still see your child’s
schedule by logging onto your parent SIS account on, or after, August 23rd.
Schedules are still a work in progress. There may be
changes to your child’s schedule. Therefore, we will give every student a
new schedule in their first period class on the first day of school.
First period classes will be posted and staff will be available to help
students find their way around. If you see a problem on your child’s
schedule, please contact your child’s counselor. We need the first two
weeks of school to fix schedule mistakes and other scheduling problems. If you
would like to change your child’s elective, we will look into the request after
the first two weeks of school.
New Students Interested in the Advanced Academics Program
Students new to FCPS and interested in the Advanced
Academics Program (Level IV) for this year should make their requests known, by
using the information provided in the link.
The window for requesting AAP classification is Sept 3
through 28th.

Message from the Clinic ~
Ms. Marina Hoffman will be at the Panther Powerhouse Open House from 8:00 a.m - 1:00 p.m. on 8/22 and 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on 8/23 to accept medications from parents and/or to hand out appropriate medication authorization forms. After that medications will need to be given directly to Ms. Hoffman in the clinic. Medications will not be accepted by any other FCPS Staff. Parents - you - not the student may bring in medications on the first day of school. Thank you.
Attention
Chorus, Orchestra, and Band Parents!
During the
Panther Powerhouse on the Wednesday and Thursday, August 22nd and
23rd, please encourage your student musicians to stop by the music
wing and be fitted for a concert uniform. The more students who complete this
during the Panther Powerhouse the less rehearsal time our students and staff
will need to spend on fittings. Students getting fitted for a gown may be
able to take their gown and garment bag home that day. Students getting
measured for a tuxedo shirt will receive their uniform later in the fall before
their first concert.
Band and
Orchestra parents please keep an eye out from your respective booster
organizations about volunteering to help with this process.
Choir
parents, we are looking for a few parents to help with the fittings, in two
hours shifts. Please click on the SignUp.com link
below to sign up if you are able. If you don’t have two hours, we welcome your
help for however long you are available. People comfortable with sewing and
hemming are especially welcome (although we won’t be hemming during the Open
House, just measuring). Thanks!

into your browser (https://member.pta.org/Pilot-Home/Individual-Join). You are now at the National PTA site.
2. Create an account – this process is quick and requires no more
information that you would provide if you join with a paper form.
3. Sign in with your account and click on Join my Local PTA. There
are 3 drop down menus – Click Virginia PTA for state, Carl Sandburg Middle
School for local PTA and Family2 for membership type.
4. Click "check out" and your contact information will be confirmed; click
“join” at the bottom left and you will be prompted to pay via PayPal or a

school programs, teacher start-up funds, professional development and much
more!
